    SOC Bill,

Today must be an incredible emotional day for me, for I now have more
    tears reading your NON-introduction... sigh.

Do the words don't go mean anything? Yeah, but they're unfair, cause
you can't comply and God has other plans for you. Sometimes I can be
    *so* selfish... :-}

God Bless you SOC, your words have always touched my heart.

5.8...as one stick-in-the-mud Nazarene puts it...TOKNOW::METCALFEEschew Obfuscatory MonikersWed Mar 03 1993 10:3639
Welcome (again) Daryl McClusky,

> My best friend is a Presbyterian
> Pastor, who went to Northwest Nazarene, but found that to support
> himself he needed to become a Youth Program Coordinator at a
> Presbyterian Church. He learned that the intellectuals in the
> Presbyterian church could rationalize any behaviour and thought that
> was a good contrast to the single rule in the Nazarene Church (NO!).

:-) I wonder which is better? :-)

I need to travel outside of New England (and New York District) to
some of these Nazarene churches and see this for myself. :-)

I got a smile from this. When I was a kid and if I was asked what do
Nazarene's believe I might have said, "We don't smoke. We don't chew.
And we don't go with girls that do. We don't dance, go to movies or
drink alcohol." But then when I was a child, I spoke like a child.

What do Nazarene's believe? We believe in God the Father, the Son and
and the Holy Spirit; that life can be found only through Jesus who was
sent to save us from our sin and sinfulness. We are a holiness church.
(And there is much more I could add.)

[Spiritual] children see the don'ts (NO!), which, at the time your
Pastor may not have been able to see the examples of much more than these.
If you want to learn more about the Nazarene's (Irena Pulkstenis also
confessed a poor opinion before meeting me - she [gratefully] did not
say it was confirmed, but changed after meeting me. I'll be happy to
share what the doctrine is, regardless of the people who sometimes
inhabit its churches over the world (about 1.1 Million, 1000 new
churches started last year worldwide - the black eye is that only 42
were started in the USA. Yes, we are not perfect and I readily admit
it, but the doctrine is NOT the special rules (don't), nor are the
examples of some to be indicative of the whole.

Smiles,

Mark

Actually, Tim's in my group ! And we even manage to talk to each other from
time in places other than staff meetings. Like him, I'm mostly overwhelmed
with work, but whiz through the conference every now and then. (Probably
more often than Tim ;-) ). Sorry I didn't get over to your section of the

can get together for lunch of something. I was pretty intent on getting my

its something I haven't really done in a quite awhile now, and I'm

Hi Erich

I've been glad to see you around ... Not many participating these days this
side of the Atlantic. We used to have more. I visited the Ayr site once,
about 10 years ago, and liked it...

An Assistant pastor from my church went as a pastor to a Baptist Church in
Cumnock some years back (he then moved on to Banbury), and my father has
been to the church in Maybole.... Do you know these?

	No kids, just a dog
Hmmm. We just got 4 lads. Oh - plus some rabbits.... somehow...

I spend alot of my spare time writing/recording my own music.
Great! What do you play?

Looking forward to seeing more of you in the same time zone ;-)

Welcome Erich and Jim. I know what you mean about not having time to
be a writer as well as reader. Tonight I get the chance as I stay up
at home, preparing to start my work week tomorrow night.

Re. no children...

One thing I have never mentioned, but people usually find interesting
is that my wife and I have 8 children. We also have 8 grandchildren.

Children live in: Fairbanks, Alaska
                    Auburn, CA
                    Reno, Nevada
                    Carson City, Nevada
                    Melbourne, Australia
                    Clayton, Georgia
                    Nashville, Tenn.
                    Baton Rouge, La.

We moved here from Carson City and would love to go back. Wish we
lived near them all.

Welcome Ken and Cynthia!

I'm hardly ever the first to welcome or anything else, thanks to
my ridiculous work schedule. However, it is one the happiest of
times to see the "next unseen" fall on the intro topic.

Don't be afraid to put replies in where you feel you want to.
They do bite here, but it doesn't hurt. If you have been reading,
just think of how well you have felt you know some of the people,
and how that makes you feel. Now realize that the rest would like
to know you also. Can't help you find the time. Have trouble with
that one myself.

Welcome... Mr. Sornsen... that was quite the introduction!!!

I thought this was rather funny, I hope you do... When I was a little
girl I lived with my Grandparents in Kentucky, around the year 1964 or
1965 [I was 6 or 7] and I heard my grandparents say the "JW's were here
    again today."

I'd watch them as they walked up and down the street, and at that time
it wasn't uncommon to see them dust their feet off as they left a
home... Well, somehow in my mind, I thought JW stood for........

Just to keep confusion limitted to doctrinal matters, my name is
    spelled Sornson (no "e"s anywhere).

> I'd watch them as they walked up and down the street, and at that time

>
> Just Walking!!!

I've been to Kentucky and knocked on a few doors there. At least
at a few places, it was cleaner outside than inside [we're talking
    back-woods, here].

I've heard of some dusting off their feet when leaving, but that's
pretty crass (to say the least). Really, it's not a practice that was
meant to be taken literally, and certainly isn't encouraged.

> Okay... I guess only I thought it was funny... sigh

It's funny enough for me to unabashedly steal (for future use).

I don't know what street it is on; I've never been there.
But I know the Pastor and it may be listed in english as
the First Spanish Church of the Nazarene. I'm told that they
were not far from the LA riot scene of last year; that the
grocery store and a building on either side of the church
was torched but the church was left alone.

Praise the LORD, Don!!! That testimony is heart warming - I know quite a
few unsaved men with Christian wives, and those situations have been in
my prayers for a long time. I've seen a couple of the situations fulfilled
(one after they'd moved on), but it's a difficult burden for the saved one
to carry, often for a long time. So it's such an encouragement to hear....
Thanks, bro - and welcome!

Welcome, Donald. What a wonderful testimony.

I've been helping a friend put together a seminar on that very same
subject for a woman's retreat. My heart aches for those women (and men
too) who have been struggling with an unequal yoke for years. They need
to hear that their prayers will not be in vain.

Your excitement and joy are infectious, even in notes! I'm looking
forward to "hearing" more. :^)

RE: 5.55 Yes I do mean the CMA. I have spent a great deal of
my time with the spainish congregation that i sometimes get the name
mixed up. I attend the morning services with our Paster Tom Griffth. I
believe (but not sure) that the missionary that you spoke of was in
Massachusetts recently, as we met a number of them from the
    missionaries of Asia and Africa.

Thank you to all for your warm welcomes. I am still new at this but
my heart is for Jesus and God. If I make an incorrect statement at
times, please help me, and I will also try to help others if there is
something I know something about. At the moment I have been reading
Revelations, and I think I will have to reread parts over to fully
    understand it.

Yes, O.B. used our church (Loweel Church of the Nazarene, in Massachusetts)
to begin a Cambodian ministry.

Sometimes, Donald, you can make a correct statement and be "corrected"
but that is part of this forum, exchanging our ideas about what we
believe; but we [almost] all acknowledge that all statements are subject
to the Word of God as test for the Truth of the matter.

We'll work together to understand what God's Word has to say. :-)

Dave & Greta, please let me know in 93.x what the "Angel Tree Program"
is. I have not heard the name mentioned out here but then my
involvement to date with PF has been limited. I will ask the next time
I have contact with the state office. Perhaps a description of your
other programs and activities may be helpful as well.

Andrew, Your reference to Is. 6:8 is appreciated, but to be quite
honest, I never quite volunteer for anything, and knowing that someone
like Moses (and there are others described in the Bible!) began his
great calling as he did gives me great hope that I may contribute a
little to God's work. A geographical comment: although this node is

    Africa.

    Thanks!

Since I have never had a chance to fly the real thing, I build
electronic models for FLIGHT which (for those that don't know) is a
flight simulator that runs on VAX hardware and was developed by a
    couple of Digital employees.

If only I could have a chance to take a ride in a real one of the
models that I have built!!! Of course, as I get older I'm finding that
I can't do very many of the rides at the amusement parks so it's
probably just as well. The pilot might not like the debris that I
    leave behind.

Becoming civilized is a painful process, Paul. I wouldn't recommend it
for the squeamish. It has taken many practitioners many years to get
me this far; who knows when the rest will be done? Who knows when I'll
be civilized enough to take out in public without fear of embarrassment
to others. You know, spaghetti sauce on the shirt and chin, a
gratifying gutteral belch, and the failure of underarm deodorant
sometimes leaves people a little put off, though for the life of me I
    can't imagine why.

Hello Eli, and a big welcome to you! For only 6 months English, you're
doing very well!

I hope you will not mind - I have moved your note from 5.? to 4.53, as that

'welcome's.

I'll look forward to hearing more of your testimony as time allows!

    Welcome Eli and Kathy.

Eli, do you speak the same Spanish as what is spoken in Bolivia ? My
father and step-mother moved to Bolivia two months ago to work with a
church in Santa Cruz. My wife and I try to write some Spanish in our
letters to them to encourage them in their language studies. I would
be very grateful of any help in writing some Spanish or any big words

Your English is *very* good for 6 months, probably better than mine

No, they are not the same. But they do alot of same type christian music.
In fact, Vern Thompson, leader of the Wranglers, has been helping them out
some. They made their tape in his studio.
Anyone interested in tapes can send mail to: Allen Kirkham

were written by Allen.

No, Timberline is a Country Gospel band. The Flying W Wranglers is a
Country band.. The FWW has been around for awhile... Timberline started
    not long ago..

Now, The Flying W Wranglers' lead singer assisted Timberline in
    producing their first (only) album...

OH, BTW.... The Flying W Ranch is planning to start (next season) a
Gospel night... Sunday evenings, at the ranch... With the standard
dining and guest gospel bands, like Timberline...!

Both bands are great..! Both are Christian in their heart and soul.

As for tapes, I'm sure we can arrange to get tapes to y'all. They are
selling for $10.00... So it would have to be $10 + S&H... The moneys
    raised helps their music ministry....

I will talk with them, to see how such a thing can be arranged. I will
post it somewhere in the conference, if OK with the MODs..

Thanks for clearing up my confusion about Timberline/Flying "W"
    Wranglers.

By the way, I was in Zondervan (Chapel Hills Mall) a week or so ago and
the music they were playing in the store was rather country sounding
and with familiar voices. Turned out to be the Flying "W" Wranglers
new Gospel album called "Cowboys for Christ" (or something like that).
Also, all the members of FWW are born-again Christians.

Oh yeah, don't tell the FWW's that they play country music! In fact,
during some of their shows they make an effort to point of that fact.
They insist that they play cowboy music and point out that in country
music all the songs are about your horse, truck, a train, ex-wife...!

         Hi John

Let me be one of the first to extend a warm welcome to the
Conference, and to assure you, as I have found, that you are
         amongst friends here.

Reading between the lines I guess you have mixed feelings about
the environment your parents are involved with, and of course you
can feel free to express these within the scope of this particular
         forum as you think appropriate.

If there are any Christians within DEC in Vienna, you might find
it helpful to meet with them from time to time to discuss things
(preferably of a spiritual nature!) on a one-to-one basis which
might help provide you with a wider appreciation of Christian
         perpectives and viewpoints.

Welcome Sparky !

I'd like to hear a little about AWANA. My step daughter (who doesn't live
with us) went to AWANA last year with a friend, but she really wasn't able
to adequately tell us about it. From what we picked up from her though, it
sounded good, and we were happy to see her involvement in it. This year,
unfortunately, she hasn't talked about it as enthusiastically.

5.233a little on AWANADYPSS1::DYSERTBarry - Custom Software DevelopmentWed Nov 03 1993 12:3626
    Leslie,

Our church just started an AWANA program, and all indications are that
the kids (and us parents) absolutely love it. I'm not an authority on
    it, but here's what I know. It's a non-denominational program that
really gets kids into the Bible. (I think our church was slow at
picking it up because it is non-denominational. Southern Baptists have
programs called RA's and GA's, which seem to be very important to the
"charter" Southern Baptists. This AWANA program is so good, though,
that many kids are dropping out of the traditional RA/GA programs and
doing AWANA. My son is one that has dropped RA's in favor of AWANA -
    with my full support :-)

AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" (from 2 Tim 2:15).
Different grades go through different material (e.g. K-2nd has one
book; 3-? has another book; etc.). The material they go through is a
lot of memorization. They memorize Bible verses, memorize Christian
songs, play games, have lessons, etc. Our AWANA lasts 1 hours, and my
kids (ages 7 & 9) like it so much that the time just flies for them.

Since we've only been doing it for a couple of months, I can't give
more information. I do have friends, though, who have had AWANA at
their churches for a long time. I have never heard anything bad about
it, and my limited experience so far reinforces that opinion.

Ok Andrew... If I wanted this kind of abuse, I can go to my
    mother-in-law's house.... a big 8^)....

Another great dog story.... My dog loves the water bed, though he don't
get up there much.... For a while, right when the alarm would go off,
in the morning, I would get out of bed and the dog would climb right in
after... He'd put his head on my pillow and scoot his body under the
covers.... THEN let out this incredible sigh.... Then goes off to sleep.

We've broke him a bit from getting on the bed, but not completely.
After all, we got him at age 6... so some habits are harder to break.

    Bob

And getting on the bed's a habit I've not been broken of yet, after all these
years...

Oh! - and welcome non the less! I was very interested to read both your

5.391more detail? just ask!CUJO::SAMPSONTue Aug 09 1994 02:4332
	.388 (Nancy):

Glad you asked! The Lord Jesus first introduced Himself to me as
my Savior when I was seven years old. My mom took me to a revival service
in Sacramento. The preacher seemed to have a message just for me, because
it turned out that I was the only one who went forward that day to receive
Christ into my heart.

I remember doubting whether I was really saved when I was around
10 to 12 years old, and even later. I kept trying to rededicate my life to
Him at the church altar. I think that I was even baptised about three
times by different pastors (with different formulas). At the end of my time
in college about 10 years later, I also wandered far away from the Lord's
blessing and protection at times. But in spite of my faithlessness, He
provided Christian brothers all through high school and college to disciple
me in God's Word.

I grew up in Covenant, Baptist, Presbyterian, etc. churches.
During college and afterward, living in Mt. View and Sunnyvale, I fell
among Charismatics and Pentecostals. Some of these experiences were
helpful and instructive to me, and some weren't. One thing I enjoyed a lot
was phone counseling with the 700 Club. The calls were forwarded from the
local office to my apartment at all hours of the night. It was really neat
to pray with people and send them a Bible if they wanted one. There was a
Christian bookstore in the area that would ship someone a Bible in any
language (it was usually Korean for some reason) for just a few dollars.

When I look back on all of the personal time and effort that God
lavishes on me, I want to do all that I can to love Him back the same way.

						Thanks for asking!

comments will cause any stir :-)

Seems to me (reading digital notes file) that you're just an unusually
active form of salt, Mark. Seasoned that conference right well I think.

Ever see the Gary Larson "Far Side" cartoon where the two deer are talking
to each other. The one deer says to the other "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal."
On that deer's chest is a target.

It's hard to stay out of the line of fire with my birthmark.
---
My grandfather tells a story of an old miner who came into town along
side his dusty mule. Out of the saloon stumbled a drunken bully. He
pulled out his lone six-shooter and commanded the old man to dance.
The old man just stood there until the bully began to shoot around his
feet. The old miner shuffled while he counted "...three...four...five...six"
at which point he stopped and went over to his mule and pulled out a shotgun.
He leveled the shotgun at the bully and asked, "Have you ever kissed the back
end of a mule?" "No sir," replied the bully dropping to his knees, "but I
sure would like to now!"

The morale of the story, folks: count the bullets.
---
Another story:

A farmer retired his old dusty mule (not related) to the pasture. He was
too old to pull the plow and the farmer didn't have the heart to shoot him.
One day, the mule fell into a dry well that the farmer had dug and was
meaning to fill back in (because it came up dry). When he went to fill
in the well, he discovered the mule. He felt that it would be impossible
to get the mule out, and he was old anyway, so he decided to bury the
mule and fill the hole at the same time.

THUD! A shovel-full of dirt hit the mule on the back. As you can imagine,
it didn't feel too good, so the mule shook off the dirt and trampled it
underfoot. Thud! came the dirt again. The mule did the same thing:
shook the dirt off and trampled it underfoot. After some time of shoveling,
the farmer took a break and looked into the hole to see his progress.
To his surprise, the mule's head was above the ground line. The mule
had shaken off the dirt that was thrown onto its back and trampled it
underfoot and was soon risen high enough to get out of the hole.

The morale of this story: shake off the dirt and trample it underfoot.

My steps are ordered.

be an encouragement to one another, and that you'll both give and
receive comfort. My sympathy to you and your family over your
Dad's death. My Mom who was my wisest and best friend, a true listener
and encourager, died a couple of years ago, so I know the pain.
I hope that the time will come when your memories are of the wonderful
times and bonds with your Dad, and his love for the Lord, rather than

Well thank you all for the warm welcomes. I guess to answer why
I haven't noted in here before is because several years ago I looked
around in CHRISTIAN and thought there were too many squabbles over
things that shouldn't separate Christians. It reminded me of stuff
at my old church that split. However, I've been reading this file

    environment.

A belated [but non-the-less heartfelt] welcome from me too, Jill! I've
been off all last week, so am only just able to catch up. It's good to
have you with us, and I trust you will know yourself used by the LORD here.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ, the Father of
compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our
troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we
   ourselves have received from God...."
						2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Your experiences of church difficulties are ones many are troubled by, and
need personal assurance that 'this' is not Christianity, but merely an
evidence of satan's bitter enmity against the children of God; an evidence
of our own weakness and total reliance upon the LORD's strength, and that
guarantee of failure whenever we let ourselves creep in, displacing His
place in our hearts...

My spiritual gift is that of encouragement ....
 - there! you have it already!

It seems my closest friendship involve people whom I not only socialize
with but whom I pray with and for.
						- AMEN*10000!!!
Isn't God's family a great family to be in?
Now that one *has* to get the accolade... ;-)

Hugs for the loss of your dear dad. That sweet pain of parting seems to
expose us deep down for the LORD's tender surgery, and the imminent reality
of eternity blows away the mundane considerations of time, so for a while
it's a struggle to go through the motions of the life He has given us for
time alone. Meanwhile it is still our channel of expression, communication,
witness, and even spiritual outworking. "Then I shall know fully, even as
I am fully known..." 1 Corinthians 13:12

Thanks for the welcome and the prayers Andrew. I've camped out in
II Corinthians 1 a great deal lately.

When I joined my current church I started thinking back to my old
church and how they had gotten their eyes off God. What I realized
was that I did too. I was horrified at their actions and reacted
to them instead of turning to God. Hopefully, it's not a mistake
    I will ever repeat.

A belated welcome to you, Jill! I read your entry in note 648. (Goals
for 1995) and thought, "who is this? a new voice in Christian? how
wonderful!" (This was before I read your introduction and appreciated
your honest and refreshing style of communicating.)

I'm very sorry for the loss of your father....I don't know what else to
say. Words seem so empty - sometimes we don't even want to hear that
"God will comfort you" "Your loved one is with the Lord" because we are
in so much pain - it may not be an immediate comfort to us. In spite
of this, I offer a heartfelt prayer that the Lord be with you through
your grief and that He will continue to comfort you in real and tangible
ways, such as through the support of your friends.

you in re-opening your life to God.

Blessings and welcome to you, PJ. I'm personally still trying to get over
the shock of your pastor telling you that it wasn't worth doing the class
just for you. That's so.... so.... so.... well, I don't have words, but it
bears no resemblance to the Lord Jesus.

May you meet the real Lord Jesus here!

And welcome to you Don. The Lord has rebuilt many a life, He can rebuild

Hi ALL!

Just read all the welcomes and thanks for the prayers! Its never easy dealing
with a broken heart and putting your love to work in letting someone go. I
pray all she needs is time away. Having a Christian room mate will help me
to focus more on GOD.

I went to two different churches this weekend, the first was at 8am I had a
hard time holding back the tears. When every one left I stayed for awhile
and thought about the message of "love" that was given, which fell in line
with mothers day. I then realized my love was beginning to fail my wife, I
need to love her enough to let her go without pressing her. At about 10am
my future roommate called and asked if I wanted to go with him to church.
So tonight I feel much better.

Nancy M. the answer to your question is yes! You can send me Email anytime, I
need friends right now. My work life is almost as bad as home and with
everything falling apart I need Christian friends, but most of all I'm
realizing I need GOD.

Thanks again, Don

Our desire here is to know genuine fellowship and love together, as we

Welcome Guido,

I don't have a lot of time to respond here, but when I saw your entry
it reminded me of a friend who helped us load our furniture when Elaine
and I moved back to Colorado. This Guido was a brother who attended
the little church in Millbury that gave us our christian family while
we were in Mass. They were a great group of people. Guido had just
started with Digital and the time frame was about the same.

Part of my problem is that I am terrible with names and I never
remembered his last name.

Could you possibly be the same guy? The facts you entered are sooooo
close.

'scuse me Harry! - is there a bit of hinge still showing? I thought I'd
trimmed them all off, but you can never tell when they'll start to grow
again....

Are you suggesting I should go back into my tree? You should know that
when nuts are fully grown, they drop off their trees! But then, perhaps I
should go back and grow some more...

btw - thanks for the title. I tasted it, but didn't really feel it fitted,

Hi Matt!!! And welcome! - or should I call you Ron now .... ? ;-)

Prayer need noted, and being puzzled over. I'm tempted to ask why, but
won't, in case you answer ;-) Mind you, with Gary tapping away there like a
spare conscience ... perhaps I'll leave it at that!!!!

introduce myself just in case I decide to cause trouble. :-)

Ah! Let me know in advance, and I'll try to arrange for FORTY2's plug to
be pulled ... ;-) (it does it often enough on its own - it must be
possible by arrangement!)

Hmmm. Have to be careful what I enter now, or I'll get you coming from
both sides.... ;-}
