The product positioning for our PCI-VME adapters is that the Bit 3
DWPVC will be sold on low-end AlphaStation platforms and low-end
AlphaServer platforms up to the 2100A. We plan to be selling a
PCI32-VME64 interface on the AlphaServer 4000's up through the
AlphaServer 8x00 platforms. Other configurations can be custom quoted
(and locally supported) but most likely will never show up in the SPD as
supported.

231.22 | Help getting operational | JULIET::HATTRUP_JA | Jim Hattrup, Santa Clara, CA | Thu Feb 20 1997 02:29 | 6 |
| Is the V4.1 VME driver available from SBB yet? I have UNIX V4.0a systems
(2100A LP) that shipped in 12/96 (with DWPVC-BA), and I (the sales rep)
want to know how to get V4.1 CD's out to them.
Perhpas there is a part nubmer for the CD and docs for the new driver??

231.23 | V4.1 to SSB this month - but what's the problem with the 4.0 kit? | MNATUR::LISTON | | Fri Feb 21 1997 08:39 | 14 |
|
Jim,
It just so happens that we will be submitting a V4.1 kit to the
SSB by the end of this month to fix a bug which prevents it from
working on any EV-56 CPU-based system. I'm not sure what your
particular need for this kit is since it doesn't do anything regarding
the 2100A LP. The V4.0 kit which is shipping should operate on that
system. It isn't listed as supported because we hadn't tested on it
at the time the kit shipped. Does Lockheed have a problem with the
V4.0 kit?

231.24 | V4.0 kit is OK, just need to get it | JULIET::HATTRUP_JA | Jim Hattrup, Santa Clara, CA | Fri Feb 21 1997 14:50 | 20 |
|
(a few phone calls later)
It appears that there is no problem with the V4.0 kit - the customer
just needed that version for the systems that shipped in December and
we had not quite made the change yet - I just need to get them an
updated kit so they have the CDrom and Doc.
I had not realized there was both a V4.0 and V4.1 VME driver for
Digital UNIX.
To make it a little more difficult and confusing - the customer,
although deploying on Digital 2100A LP systems, does some development
on 8200 5/300 system, now running V4.0a Apparently the V4.0 kit does
(the Bit3 driver) not work on Digital Unix V4.0a - at least not the
8200 5/300. However, they are testing the V4.1 driver, and that's OK -
except apparently not part of the standard support plan.
I need to figure out what to recommend - but it appears the the 8200 is
not going to fit well into their 2100A LP VME development environment.

231.25 | a little more clarification | ADISSW::TENHAVE | | Mon Feb 24 1997 08:08 | 38 |

This reply is to clear up any confusion over the last three replys
to this conference...
The Lockheed customer did not have a 4.0 kit. The customer had
a BETA version of the 4.0 kit. This BETA version was created to
fill this customer's needs at the time (November 96). This BETA
version was not intended to work on any version of DUNIX except
4.0. We did not want a BETA version of the kit ending up all over
the place. The customer called and requested a "4.1" kit because
he found his "4.0 - BETA" did not work under 4.0a DUNIX. The customer
bought the standard part number and received the old DUNIX 3.2x
kit. The customer only needed his 3.2x style kit upgraded to the
released 4.0 kit. This customer forgot the "BETA" status of his kit,
and by the luck of the draw, bought another adapter just prior to the
software change over.
This released 4.0 kit started shipping from SSB early Jan 97.
And to muddy the water a little...
We will this week, submit to SSB a newer version of the kit called
version 4.1 on the CDrom. This version adds support for EV56 systems.
But you must look at the newest SPD to know which systems are supported.
If you have a particular need for an unsupported system, contact
ADISSW::LISTON to have this system shipped to us so we can qualify
it.
We really do want to support all PCI platforms, but we HAVE to have
one to qualify the kit, before it is listed as supported. The differences
even in a particular line of systems makes this necessary.

231.27 | What about the 4100 (again...)? | MQOOA::LEDOUX | Vincent [email protected] | Fri Apr 04 1997 12:38 | 13 |
| It has been asked before, but never answered...
The 2100/2100A are going EOL and the DWPVC is still NOT supported
on the 4100.
Is there any plan to get it to work?
Has it been tested?
Does it "basically" work or plan don't work?
Any information welcome.
Vince.

231.28 | 4100 not planned for DWPVC support | MNATUR::LISTON | | Sat Apr 05 1997 23:46 | 6 |
| It has been stated more than once (reply .21 in this note comes to mind)
that the 4100 is not a system with planned support for the DWPVC. It will
be supported by the PCI32-VME64 interface (2T-DWP64). Contact Dick Vignoni
for availability.
