Customer has a DEC 3000-700. Wants to upgrade from OPENVMS Alpha V6.1 to V6.2... Pal Code is V5.48.. When booting from the ALPHA062 Binary CD, we get the VMS BANNER and the system seems to hang with Flashing Curser. Only way out is to Halt the system. The CD Drive is Local and is known as DKB100. Customer is looking for his V6.1 CD to see if we can boot from it. Also looking for an External CD Drive to see if we can bot from it, taking the V6.2 CD to another system to see if we can read/list the contents of the cd. Any suggestions? dec 3000-700 has 1 onboard scsi controller and all devices connected to it will be dka. So when you say local drive (i think it means connected to onboard scsi) , it has to be dkaxxx, not dkb100. Are you sure you are booting from the right device? - Sridhar.

I questioned that myself and ask the customer about it. He informed me that his CD drive has a switch on the back of it that when in one position the drive is known as DKA and the other is DKB.(?) Is this something new, or is this a COD (customer on drugs)? J.D.Hill

I dont know of any device that can do that. can you ask him to try it as a dka device and see if it works? Also the there should be no SCSI ID conflicts. >>> show device should show all the connected devices. - Sridhar. |
