Howdy, I am working with a F/S engineer who is trying to update the firmware on a DEC3000-300X. The F/S engineer has been unsucessful in doing so. The following is from the engineer. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.. John Gibb System type DEC3000 model 300X When trying to upgrade the firmware to 6.9 (version 3.8 CD) you get the following error. UPD>UPD Read IO ROM Device ID UPD-E Verify loaded ROM image ........................... UPD-E Verify loaded ROM image checksum error UPD-E ROM device jumper? UPD-E ROM device error UPD> The flash enable jumper is in the write enable position. The customer tried several older versions of firmware cd but always the same results. I have tried two system modules (54-22249-01) and two different daughter cards (54-22257-01 (model 300) and 54-22257-03 (model 300x)) and the power supply and had the same results. When I tried the bounded set of spares (54-22249-02 and 54-22257-02 model 300L) the firmware update works fine.

256.1 | fw could be too old... | LEDDEV::DHATI | Tue Mar 18 1997 11:13 | 9
The current fw on the 300x could be too old. TRy a rollup upgrade. Upgrade the system to 6.0 and then try the 6.9. The other cause for this error could be the wrong fw image. If you are using the 3000-500 or 400 image on a 300x, you will get a similar error. - Sridhar.

Sridhar, Nice to talk to you again.. One of the spare 54-22249-01 the F/S engineer received was at Rev R01 FW 6.5. The V3.8 CD was used to do the firmware update. I don't know if we have received allot of DOA spares or there is somthing different with these rev of boards. The original board was a rev K01 but I don't know what the original rev of FW was. Any help or sugestions would be appreciated.. John Gibb DTN:635-4377

The problem was caused by a bad vendor CD Drive. This drive worked flawlessly under unix but was intermitant during the firmware updates.. Thanks for the help.. John Gibb |
