253.0. "Dual headed DEC3000/500" by SEDSWS::BRODIE () Mon Mar 03 1997 12:10

  I ahve inherited a Dec3000/500 m/ch with 1 x onboard video + 1 PMAG-E
    video adaptor.

I would like to get it working with a dual headed display running
VMS v6.2 (or later) but to date have been unable to bring up motif on
any other than the ONboard video adaptor.

DECW$Private_server_setup.template has been renamed to .com and run so
    far but with no effect!!

As you can see device gpa0 is offline. (the PMAG-E)

    Anybody assist at all?

Alan,

your PMAG-E is one of the PXG family devices. There were no device drivers
for them in the operating system, you had to install Open3D to have support
for PXG cards. Unfortunately in current versions of Open3D there is no more
support for PXG cards. The last version who supported them was Open3D 2.6

On Digital UNIX there is also for PXG a restriction for operating system:
version must be less or equal 3.2c, i don't how if on OpenVMS a similar
restriction exists. (With older Open3D/OpenVMS versions i had my DS3000/500
running in dual head mode with on-board/PXG).

Assume you have solved the version problems for PXG you also must modify
DECW$Private_server_setup.com to use the PXG. Only renaming the .template
to .com is not enough, you must modify it (and probably the systemparameters
WSMAX and VIRTULAPAGECNT). For details see the Open3D 2.6 release notes.

Good luck.
