1989.0. "sound card "hiss" in 500/333" by FIREBL::LEEDS (From VAXinated to Alphaholic) Mon Jun 02 1997 14:49
I know there are a number of notes in here about the sound quality in the
AlphaStations, but I didn't see a note that seemed to fit my issue:
I have an ALPHAstation 500/333 with the "standard" sound card running NT 4.0.
After loading the Microsoft Sound System drivers, I plugged in a set of
headphones so I could listen to RealAudio playbacks of keynote talks, etc.
It works fine, but there is a constant background "hiss" in the
headphones... I feel like I want to hit the "dolby noise reduction"
button, or turn down the treble.
I've tried all combinations of various volume setting - the volume in the
tray, volume control, etc. But even with the sound totally muted, the hiss
is still there.
Any ideas, or did we just use a real cheap sound card in these puppies ??
