1949.0. "AlphaServer 400 POST Fail DE500?" by QBUS::E_BURKHALTER () Mon May 05 1997 00:49

    We have a customer with a AlphaServer 400 54-23262-02 cpu
    module. With the original CPU daughter card, the system
    runs power up self test with no failures. AXP VMS boots
    fine and pathworks runs correctly.

    The original system is running 6.2-2 console code.

    For some reason someone suggested replaing the CPU daughter
    card.

    With two new CPU daughter cards, POST fails with:

    *** error (ENA0, Network Station Address Has A Bad Checksum)

    The customer can ping in/out and they can telnet into te system.
    The problem is that pathworks doesn't come up.

    At >>> show config they see EWA0 and ENA0.

    The engineer didn't capture the console versions on the two
    new daughter cards.

    I'm not sure what slot the DE500 is located in.

    I placed note 722 in this same conference and it looks almost
    like the same error. I checked the release notes for 6.4 console
    code, but didn't see any mention of problems/corrections for the
    DE500.

    Has anyone seens this before?

1949.1wrong isa info in new cpu cardLEDDEV::DHATIMon May 05 1997 12:1912
	On the avanti , the nvram is loacted on the CPU daughter
	card. This nvram contains the isa info. By changing the CPU
	card , you have a different isa config info.

	From the error message you have listed , the console has
	problem reading the ethernet address from the ISA ethernet
	card.

	Solution:- REconfigure the ISA ethernet card. ( It is not the
	de500 problem).
