1905.0. "Long KZPSC init on 2 vol RZ29 stripeset?" by PTOSS1::CYPHER () Fri Mar 21 1997 16:00
I installed one each single-channel KZPSC in seven AlphaStation
500 5/400 systems. Each has 4mb cache with no battery and drives
a split-shelf BA356 with 2 RZ29B-VW disks. We built and init'd each
as a RAID-0 stripeset and went home for the weekend, returning to
completed operations on Monday. One required a re-do and I timed
it at 20 hours! Any clue as to the seemingly long init time?
I double checked the SRM FW to be 6.3-11 (3.8CD). I upgraded to 6.4-3
from the 3.9CD. No help. All seven of my machines seem to exhibit this
behavior. KZPSC-XA rev D / Standalone RCU V3.2 / Config util 3.11 /
SWXCR FW 2.36 / 4mb cache / no battery / "write-thru" mode. Moved a
second module into the box; no help. Started init & saw following:
20 minutes 11% complete
60 minutes 21% complete
90 minutes 26% complete
The time seems to lengthen with progression. The led's seem to indicate
an RTZ is being performed between writes, as opposed to a spiral write.
This would account for worsening times. I will cross-post in the
ALPHASTATION notesfile. Systems are PB560 (Alphastation 500/400mhz).
Thank you,
Dennis
