| The problem is caused by SP2. When you upgrade to SP2, it will replace the
HAL but the replacement HAL in SP2 does not support this machine.
To fix this problem, go to
http://www.windows.digital.com/support/Firmware/as600a.htp and download the
HAL for this machine. You should also update your firmware to the latest
release which is V5.28. Either do a re-install of NT or install the disk that
has the system partition on another machine and update the HAL.
FYI... This problem will be fixed for NT V4.0 SP3.

Thanks. I was afraid of that.
The miata has a "halcopy" utility to update the HAL from
AlphaBios. Is there one for Primo, or could I somehow use the
one from the Miata?

| I don't think there is a 'halcopy' utility available for Alcor Primo.
From your description, it sounds like this utility should work on the
Alcor Primo.

1900.4 | system back up, running SP2 | HYDRA::DONSBACH | Jeff Donsbach, Software Partner Engineering, DTN 297-6862 | Wed Mar 19 1997 12:45 | 16 |

Just for kicks, I tried the Miata's halcopy utility. It didn't work.
I'm not sure why, but I think it might be looking for files with
specific file names.
Anyway, I re-installed the system from scratch.
Then, I unpacked SP2 into a directory again. Before doing "update",
I replaced the "halpinna.dll" from the SP2 kit with the one off
the Web site. Then did my "update".
System is now up and running with SP2 installed.....
Thanks for all the help.
