I have an AlphaStation 255/233 running AlphaBIOS 5.12 with a 1GB internal drive and an external StorageWorks shelf with 2 2GB disks and a TLZ06 tape. When I boot the system and hit F2 and enter setup, most of the setup options including system configuration hang. FS was here attempting to diagnose the problem and we discovered that if the external SCSI shelf is powered down, then the setup options work as expected. The system configuration option spins up the two 2GB disks before it hangs. I've been running NT (currently 4.0 1381, with SP2) for over a year without any noticable SCSI problems. Anyone have any ideas? Brad

Sounds like the same AlphaBios problem I found. See 1801.* here and also 199.* in the XL_PERSONAL_WoRKSTATION notes file. I don't know if the new AlphaBios for the 255 has been released yet. I never got it. I worked around the problem I was having. -Jeff D. | |||||
