1879.0. "Question re: ZLXp-E1 and sync-on-green" by ASGMKA::DAY () Thu Feb 27 1997 19:23

    I have a customer who believes that the ZLXp-E1 has a jumper
    setting that will force sync on green. Is that the case and,
    if so, what is it?

    This customer has been quite insistent and a final answer to
    this question would be very much appreciated.

Hi Rich,

I don't think there was a hardware switch, but there is an SRM enviroment
variable that the driver would check. Here's a blurb from the
AlphaStation 200 Service Guide:

tga_sync_green	This variable is used to control the composite video signal
                for monitors on the ZLXp controller that cannot detect the
                presence of composite video or v/h signals. The possible
                values are:

                1 - Composite video for first ZLXp.
                2 - Composite video for second ZLXp.
                3 - Composite video for first and second ZLXp.

Cheers,
Terry

   The Synch-on-Green is an Environment variable, and only under SRM.

   There is a switch setting on the ZLXp-E1 module that can force-select
   synch-on-green, but NT cannot switch the console between the bootstrap
   console display *and* the run-time displays. (ie: one gets garbage
   during the bootstrap, until NT is up and running. These systems must
   be set to auto-boot, as the AlphaBIOS/ARC lacks support for a serial
   console and for the TGA_SYNC_GREEN environment variable.)

   See WRKSYS::ALPHASTATION 41.13, 41.21, and 41.23, etc.
