1865.0. "Hardware Flow control on an Alpha 400/233 serial port" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Jim Griffiths) Sun Feb 23 1997 09:42

Hello

Can someone tell me for sure if you can set up hardware flow control on an
Alphserver
400/233 com ports. Are there any console command settings?. The customer wants
to connect
a modem to OPA1: or TTA0: and use RTS/CTS rather than the standard XON/XOFF.
He
is running OpenVMS 6.2-1H3. Console version is 6.3-3.

Thanks

Jim

Use TTA0:, which is under total control of OpenVMS. Then set the
charateristics via $SET TERM/PERM. Be sure to use a cable with *all* the
pins, i.e., not DECconnet MMJ cable.

1865.2Thanks Paul but..KERNEL::GRIFFITHSJTue Feb 25 1997 08:1914
    Thanks Paul

    But how do you tell the port to use hardware flow control instead of
    Xon Xoff. Is it supported in V7.1? I can't see anything in the
    VMS terminal characteristics.

1865.4But does it work?KERNEL::GRIFFITHSJTue Feb 25 1997 09:1112
    Thanks Fredrick

    /modem is of course the obvious one but I had been told that this did not
    work on the Alpha 400/233 serial ports, I think I need to go away and
    try this.

I think you need $SET TERM/PERM/COMMSYNC for hardware flow control (CTS).
/HOSTSYNC is software (XON/XOFF) flow control.

    Actually you need both TTSYNC and HOSTSYNC for full xon/off.
