1823.0. "AS600 Powerstorm 4D60 Configuration" by NQOS01::nqsrv120.nqo.dec.com::Workbench () Mon Jan 27 1997 22:55

On a AS600, the installation a Powerstorm 4D60T in the middle two PCI slots
failed to start Windows at the end of the boot process and a blue screen
flashed on and off every two seconds.
However, the ZLX-E in the second PCI slot functioned okay, but when placed in
the first PCI slot system did not boot to Windows, and a message scrolled
during startup vga0 graphic device not configured, no graphics display.
It appears as if the first PCI slot is not being recognized by the system.
When the system boots up in single user mode, a sizer -gt returns GENERIC for
the when the Powerstorm is installed.

Also noticed the /sys/conf/SYSTEMFILE did not have a line for vga0. Entered
two lines listed below, rebuilt the kernal but no results.
controller vga0 pci0 at slot* vgaintr
controller vga0 pci1000 at slot* vgaintr

OS Unix 4.0A
Open3D 4.2

Checked the Web graphics configuration page and the Powerstorm 4D60 is listed
as a supported configuration on AS600.

Has anyone experience a similar problem?

    I have couple of questions.

    1. Did you rebuild the kernel after installing the Powerstorm 4D60T?
       If not, boot generic kernel (genvmunix) after installing the
       Powerstorm 4D60T. Then you have to rebuild kernel by using doconfig
       command.

       After reboot system should come up properly.

1823.24D60 needs mandatory subsetsWRKSYS::DOTYRuss Doty, Graphics and MultimediaThu Jan 30 1997 17:2713
    Umm, I just got bitten with this one last night...

    The problem is that you are missing the 100 dpi fonts. Boot in single
    user mode, mount the UNIX CD, and do a setld against /ALPHA/BASE
    (check, there may be a top level directory against this). This will
    offer you a selection of 60-80 optional products, plus 3 mandatory
    subsets -- 100 dpi fonts, XServer for Open3D and something for
    TurboChannel.

    Install the mandatory subsets, reboot, and you should be up and
    running.

    I had expert assistance with solving this one -- thanks, Monty!
