1816.0. "Machine check, ASRV 400, EPIC_SEAR register?" by STP01::STPKPK::stp01::kepke () Fri Jan 24 1997 08:41

	Hi,

	A customer of mine has a problem with periodically "machine
checks"/"hardware errors" on Alphaserver 400. I has found a very good tool
MCHK_VAX.V35 that told me that the faulty SIMM is in Bank 0, LW0, basing on two
crash info files.
	Then I moved the faulty SIMM to Bank 1, LW1 and after the next crash I
received from the tool that the problem is in "Memory or CPU_CARD" and the
"EPIC_SEAR Register contain the failing Address".

	EPIC_SEAR = 0x4949b0.

	I looked through some notes in the conference about translating this
register, but didn't understand the algorithm (sorry). Who can help me - is this
SIMM faulty? How can I translate EPIC_SEAR to find out the failing address?

	Thanks a lot in advance.

	Michael.

1816.1set ho FREEBE for more help.WRKSYS::BROOKSFri Jan 24 1997 10:334
    You can get a good fault similator by going to
    node (set host) FREEBE, user is GUEST. Isolating a bad simm is made
    much easier.  Good Luck!

1816.2I did use this program !STP01::STPKPK::stp01::kepkeMon Jan 27 1997 02:179
	Art,

	My question was about the MCHK_VAX.V35 that had been taken from node
FREEBE. This program told me to find the failing address in the EPIC_SEAR
register ! How can I translate this register ?

	Michael.
