| I have an AlphaServer 400 4/233 with a forgotten console password. Is
the replacement of the TOY and NVR chips the only way to clear this
password???
thanks...

1565.9 | Can't find the battery | VOLKL::COOLIDGE | | Tue Mar 25 1997 09:04 | 10 |
| Thanks for the help. Just one more thing though, I am having a bit
of trouble locating the battery. I assume it has the general shape
of a small battery but I cannot see anything that looks like one
anywhere in the box. The manual I got with the system is of no help
as it doesn't mention a battery at all.
Can you point me to the location of the battery??
thanks...

1565.10 | jumper to clear RTC | WRKSYS::SCHUMANN | | Tue Mar 25 1997 16:52 | 7 |
| I think the AS400 has a "Infinity" motherboard. The schematics show a
J29 jumper on the MLB for clearing the realtime clock. I think this MAY
clear out the password. If that doesn't work, try removing E56 the NVRAM
module on the CPU daughtercard.

1565.11 | or order a replacement NVRAM | WRKSYS::SCHUMANN | | Tue Mar 25 1997 16:57 | 8 |
| I re-read .0, and found that you tried some of the suggestions in .10
already... Try this: remove NVRAM, power up without NVRAM, then plug in NVRAM
(while live) and do something that writes NVRAM, e.g. set a password.
Don't tell anyone I recommended this. It's not usually a good idea to plug
stuff in while "live".

| Thanks, Reinhard, I figured out that I had posted the wrong information
in reply .8, but hadn't gotten the right info yet.
I've deleted my .8 reply.

1565.13 | I'm confused!! | VOLKL::COOLIDGE | | Fri Apr 04 1997 09:34 | 11 |
| Ok, I'm a bit confused! Does the AlphaServer 400 4/233 have a battery
that can be removed to clear the console password (if so where is it
located) or is it necessary to replace the NVRAM and TOY clock chips?
Are the part numbers listed in .4 for the AlphaStation the same for
the AlphaServer? I realize that there are subtle differences between
the two but do not know if those differences apply to these parts.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

1565.14 | yes | WRKSYS::SCHUMANN | | Fri Apr 04 1997 12:26 | 4 |

1565.16 | Confirmation please.... | VOLKL::COOLIDGE | | Wed May 14 1997 10:09 | 9 |
| It seems that the part number listed in .4 for the NVRAM item may be
incorrect. I ordered both 21-39125-02 and 21-29631-02 and was told that
21-29631-02 was not a valid part number.
So, where do I go for this item, or has the number been replaced by
another?
Thanks for any help
