471.0. "Notification of ZKO Site Shutdowns, Spring 1997" by RTL::DAHL () Mon Mar 03 1997 13:54

Has anyone who is a resident of ZKO gotten formal notice of the ZKO site
shutdowns that are scheduled over the next couple of months? I haven't, and
neither have the people I've asked about it.

I discovered this this morning when I went to use the ZKO2-1 locker room, and
was shooed out. The fellow who asked me to leave said that notice had been
made via e-mail three times over the past two weeks. I called the Facilities
Customer Service telephone number (1-6500) and said that I hadn't been informed
about these restrictions. Later this morning Mary Manni sent me a copy of the
notice (reproduced below; note that the entire facililty will be closed over a
couple of weekends).

I get lots of site notices via e-mail, which usually don't impact me. Here one
comes along that impacts lots of people, and it doesn't seem to have gotten
wide-spread distribution.

See 470.8, and look carefully at the bottom of the memo, the
memo was sent via readers choice to all residents of "MKO",
	not "ZKO"!

probably sent to MKO residents all 3 times!

Oooch!! I hadn't considered losing the locker room!! (Grrr...we may have to
try to negotiate to get at least that back!)

Anyway, I _did_ get the email notice (only one!), it arrived at 16:42 today
(arguably, at least 72 hours late...).

Well, I complained about something else recently and they never answered my
e-mail. Next I speak to Jim, I'll holler at him about the locker room.
471.4A contractor (what a surprize) on the end of RCHNDYMN::MCCARTHYA Quinn Martin ProductionTue Mar 04 1997 05:2714
I emailed Jim, his response was this:

Brian, this message was suppose to be sent out Readers Choice through
the
Facilities Hot line the person on the hot line is a contractor and could
not be reached by the people at Readers Choice for questions soooooo
readers choice didn't send out the message. I am sorry for any
inconvenience this may have caused. I will be working the issue with
Readers Choice Dist to see
if we can keep this from happening in the future.

Will the power and A/C systems in the lab be stable at 10PM?
I don't want to get here to find that the A/C's haven't
started or that the lab systems don't have power.

This is the weekend before CSERL submission for the next
Alpha CD's...great timing. How come the first notice
a few months ago specifically stated that there would be
    	NO electrical interuptions.

You must have missed one of the messages that came out. One of them did say
that part of the upgrade was electrical and that entire shutdowns would be
required.
