A memo we got (I have not asked the author if I can post it so I won't, I'll
just cut a few parts and post them):

>> * Register your laptop or notebook computer with Security
>> and record the serial number(s) for your own records.

>> * Don't leave your laptops and notebooks unattended.
>> Store them in a secured area on a daily basis.

>> * Consider the purchase of a desk chain or other like
>> device if you're frequently in and out of your office.
>>
>> note: Digital offers a device through PCDirect called a
>> Kensington Cable, (part #64068) and can be reached by
>> dialing 1-800-DIGITAL.

466.9We're only looking to slow them downAOSG::HOLSTEINRichie HolsteinWed Apr 02 1997 10:3810
I had a similar situation to Steve in .3 -- where to attach the cable in an
office that includes only hang-on-the-wall furniture? One of the pieces that
came on the kit is one which looks like a hex nut, but the hole in it is only
big enough to pass a screw through, and there are other holes for the cable.
I've attached the "hex nut" to the bottom of one of my work surfaces. The
cable covers over the screw. Someone determined could well pull the whole
thing out of the composite wood into which it's screwed, but it would take
time and make a lot of noise.

I've got a Kensington lock and my tabletop here in ZK has a metal bar that
holds the pencil drawer in place. I can secure the cable around that. The
bar can be removed with a screwdriver but it's likely to be a reasonable
deterrent to a would-be thief. You could also just loop it through the arm of
your chair. Someone walking out of the building with a laptop and a chair
would look pretty suspicious, I think!

I have one and just put one end in the lockable drawers of my
	desk.
