1629.0. "Canobie Lake info" by VICKI::DODIER (Food for thought makes me hungry) Wed Jun 19 1991 09:05

    	Has anyone in here either fished Canobie Lake or have a Clarks
    Guide handy as a reference on it ? I'm supposed to go over there this
    Friday with a person I work with. He likes to fish for trout and I like to
    fish for bass so I'm hoping that it has both. I'd even settle for
    pikeral and perch.

    	Any info on it appreciated.................RAYJ

    I don't think you'll score any Trouts. Bass, picks and perch
    probably will be plentiful. I see ALOT of ice fishing going
    on in the winter time. Not much fishing pressure on the lake.
    Let me know how you make out...might be interesting!

1629.2There were rainbows in canobieDELNI::OTAWed Jun 19 1991 10:218
    I fished canobie several years ago and it was loaded with rainbows. It
    was funny when we pulled into a small cove some kids fishing on shore
    told us they were catching their limits on rainbows. We thought they
    were just mistaken till all of us caught our limits.

    so there are trout in there.

                Yes, there used to be rainbows in Canobie. But the
    state quit stocking after the town of Windham closed the public
    boat ramp. You may get lucky and catch a very old hold over but
    your chances are slim. Anyway, it does have a good population
    of crappie, SM and LM, and the ever present perch and sunfish.
    Not much structure, but fish the weeds that you can find and the
    drop offs. You should do okay.
                 Oh yeah, if you do want to put a boat in, just go to
    the Windham launch, put in your boat, then have your partner
    drive over to the Salem side and park in the parking lot that the
    town put in. You motor over there and pick him/her up and you're
    in!

                   Good luck,

1629.4go before they draw the lake downDONMAC::MACINTYRETerminal AnglerWed Jun 19 1991 12:067
    The launch is LOW in the fall. I tried launching there last fall and
    backed my toyota 4x4 1/2 way across the lake and never saw 2 feet of
    water. Ok, I may be exagerating a little...but we gave up.

    I assume it's ok before they draw the lake down.

    -donmac - who'd like to go after some of them canobie crappie sometime...
1629.5Sounds like any trout will be BIGVICKI::DODIERFood for thought makes me hungryWed Jun 19 1991 12:4012
    re: last few about ramp/rocks

    	I'll be fishing it from my canoe so this shouldn't be an issue. I
    figured I'd put in at the pumping station and take it from there.

    	Right now they're calling for thunderstorm Friday so I'll have to
    see what the weather brings. We were planning on fishing for bass the
    first couple of hours and trout right around sunset. I'm hoping to get
    some top-water action but I'll probably throw gitzits/worms/jigs if
    that doesn't work.

    	Thanks for the input........RAYJ
1629.6small jigs will work on the crappieDONMAC::MACINTYRETerminal AnglerWed Jun 19 1991 13:2210
    you may want to consider those crappie rayj, i know you like to eat
    fish, if you haven't tried crappie, you should, they're great!

    ps: caught a big white perch up at winni a couple weeks ago, hit
    a bomber long topwater while smallie fishing... didn't have a scale
    but it was between 2-3lbs easy... made the ones i've caught out of
    the lamprey look real small... but they're all tastey...

1629.7But, you never knowSALEM::JUNGThu Jun 20 1991 07:3510
    I haven't fished Canobie this year but have fished other local
    lakes. The Trout are deep right now so I wouldn't spend to much
    time working the surface. By deep, I mean between 10 - 20 feet
    over 35 or so feet of water. Have had my best days right on the
    bottom in about 25 feet of the wet stuff. Don't do much Bass'in
    so I can't help you there. I heard the weather for Friday is going
    to be real nice and like that right through the weekend.

    Concerning Don and the Toyota...I backed him in and boy was it weird to
    see 100' of water between the front of the truck and the ramp...
