1624.0. "cape charter suggestions?" by SCADMN::WHITE () Wed Jun 12 1991 18:28

    Looking for information on a good charter boat on the Cape for Blues or
    Bass. Have a party of 5 interested for sometime in the 3rd week of
    July.

    Have rented a place in dennisport so would prefer someplace close.

    Not looking for a lot of meatfishing, just some leisurely fun.

    Prefer south side of Cape, but Bay OK too.

 Captain Tony Tolentino of Falmouth (runs the Cygnet) is fantastic. He is
a leading authority on catching bass and blues. He is also great for offshore
trips for sharks, tuna and white marlin. (He won the catch and release part
of the Oak Bluffs monster shark tournament, and came in 2nd the year before.)

 Definitely look him up.

    The two charter boats I've been out on from the Cape are the

     "Shanti" Capt Bob Lassen - former DEC person fishes for blues and
                bass out of Harwichport around Nantucket. We did catch
                lots of fish. 432-7542

      "Annie-B" Capt Bob Bolduc - Fishes for Blues and bass around
                 Wellfleet, Leaves out of Barstable harbor. We also caught
                 lots of fish.  398-2486

       I haven't been out with a charter since getting a boat for a few
       years now. Please post whet you get for prices if you call.

1624.4Charter booked-new boatSCADMN::WHITEFri Jun 21 1991 20:2814

    I called Bob Lassen, got his wife who referred me to his teacher (Ron
    Mcechin?), but he was booked up. He referred me to Bob Miller, who
    also trained under Ron for 15 yrs. He has a new boat, the "Boobyhatch"
    and fishes out of Chatham. I booked with him for a full day charter for
    $ 425, which seems to be the rate around there. He has a 33' Fortier.

    I'll post a note on the trip results in late July.

    Thanks to all for the references.

1624.5Sorry Bob's retired from Charterin 56646::LANDRY_DTue Jul 09 1991 13:3019
	Sorry to hear that Bob Lassen has retired.
	As an ex-Dec"ie" he sure knew how to find fish.
	I've chartered with him about 5yrs in a row and the
	"worst" day was 25 Blues. We mostly do surface lures
	on spinning rods. Great fun but not for the "meat" fisherpersons
	who do Umbrella rigs on wire line. "real sporty"

	I haven't fished with Bob in two years as my brother-in-law has
	a boat and lives in Harwichport. I still miss going out with
	Bob as he has a great sense of humor yet is serious about getting
	you into fish. Great with a family also. I took my wife and daughters
	out with Bob. At 5 and 6 yrs of age they did great bringing in those
	Blues off Nantucket. We release all Blues.

	I saw the "Shanti" still in it's usual moring this past weekend.
	So I wonder if he's thinking of selling her?

    Bob's not going to sell the boat.
    When the spirit moves him and the weather cooperates,
    he's going to go "low key" tuna fishing.

    I'm guessing "low key" means he'll fish only nine out of ten days.

1624.7Great Charter TripSCADMN::WHITEMon Jul 22 1991 14:0920
    I just returned from a great one week vacation on the cape and here is
    the feedback on the charter:

    We ended up going out for an 8 hour trip with Bob Miller, who skippers
    a 33 ft Fortier, a very seaworthy and great fishing boat. Bob was
    recommended by Ron Mcbicken, who has run a chrter boat out of Stage
    Harbor in Chatham for a few years, had Miller as his mate for many
    years, and got Bob Lassen interested in the business.

    Although it was a bit rough water at first, the seas settled down and
    we proceeded to fish the rips off Monomoy and landed over 30 Bass, of
    which 4 were keepers, most were just under the 36" limit. Also brought
    in a few blues as well. Miller is a great skipper and fisherman, deals
    well with his customers and I would recomend him highly.

    As soon as I unpack, I'll post his number here.

    Thanks for all your help in finding him
