1614.0. "Lakes that allow big motors?" by USOPS::GALLANT (Who me? brother please...) Thu Jun 06 1991 14:33

    	I tried doing various dir/title=xxxx as well as looking
    	through the keywords to find an appropriate place to
    	ask this question but really didn't see a specific place
    	for it. If there IS one, mods, please let me know...

    	Anyway, my Dad has recently sparked a renewed interest
    	in putting his boat back into the water after a LONG
    	time. He's been trying to find a lake that will take
    	a 50hp motor.

    	Does anyone in here know of places in the North Central
    	Worcester County area (Gardner and surrounding towns)
    	that would take a motor that size????

    	Thanks!!!
    	/Kim

1614.1should not be a problemDONMAC::MACINTYRETerminal AnglerFri Jun 07 1991 13:178
    Kim, I'm not too familar with that area, but in general, most lakes do
    not have horsepower restrictions - however it's possible that your area
    is an exception to that rule. Additionally, 50hp is not that large by
    todays standards. For example, the standard size motor on many of the
    tournament bass boats that frequent many of the local small ponds and
    lakes is 150hp.

1614.2A few in Wor countyLEDS::DCAMPBELLFri Jun 07 1991 14:577

    	Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, lake Chauncy in Westboro, lake
        Singletary (sp) in Millbury, and Webster lake in Webster are a few
    	lakes that can handle big boats.

1614.3Can you say.....SALEM::JUNGSat Jun 08 1991 10:0910
     Webster Lake is also known as:

            Lake Chargogagmanchaugagogchabunagungamug

     It means: You fish on your side, and I'll fish on my side,
            And nobody fishes in the middle.

    	Thanks for the information. Now that .2 mentioned the
    	fact that 50hp is somewhat small, I'm wondering if I
    	was wrong with my original statement... Hmmm.. I'm
    	going to have to double check...

    	Thanks again!

    Hi, you can also use the Connecticut river at the Barton's cove ramp
    (right off of route 2) a little past the French King bridge.

    	In the Fitchburg,Leominster.Westminster area, lake Whalom,Wymans,
    Fort Pond,lake Shirley are not restricted by any horsepower limit.You
    might want to try them.Also in the Winchendon(sp) area there is lake
    Monomonac.

    	Hope this helps

1614.7Good lake--no accessMILKWY::MLOEWETue Jun 11 1991 13:376
re .6

There's no place to really put in at Wymans, other than across the street from
the Wachussets' Mtn entrance. Then there's no parking.

    	That is a good question too. What kind of ramps do these
    lakes have? Some lakes don't have a limit but you can't get on them
    either.
    	I know Whalom in Lunenburg has a great concrete ramp.

1614.9Wymans'ramp.LEVERS::NPAREWed Jun 12 1991 13:0711

    	As .7 mentioned the only public ramp on Wymans is off rt 140 by Mt.
    Wachusett's entrance.It's dirt and a bit rough but you can still get in
    and out if you're carefull ( I do it with a car).There are other ramps
    but you have to know someone to use them.As far as parking you park on
    the side of the road,the Westminster police will not bother you unless
    you give them reason to.
