1584.0. "Any suggestions for Gouin Reservoir?" by WMOIS::K_KAMINSKY () Fri May 03 1991 14:41

    I have a 5 day fishing trip planned to Gouin Reservoir in Quebec the
    last week in May.

    We are planning to fish primarily for Walleye and Northern Pike. I
    would greatly appreciate any hints or suggestions people could offer
    with regard to types of tackle/equipment to bring, fishing techniques
    that are most appropriate, etc. I am pretty much a novice when it
    comes to Walleye and Pike so any hints you can give will help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ken,

	I haven't fished Canada for years but, I would take several daredevils
with you..There are the red and white spoon, larger the better for northerns.
For Walleyes I would take night crawlers and 1/4 ounce jig heads color black
or brown....Northerns will be in the warm shallow bays 2-5ft of water, walleyes
will be on the breaks 8-15ft.....I would get a heavy casting rod for northerns
and a mediun action spinning rod for walleyes..Line 14lb for casting rod and
6-8lb for spinning...

For the best results get a guide for the first day and then experiment the rest
of the time....

Have fun,

Bruce (Bigbird)

    Don't forget those steel leaders, Also, DON'T FORGET a head-net and a
    good pair of pliers! Some large pike essentials!

    Good Luck!

1584.3Mepp's Bass Killer kit worksHPSTEK::RHUFFTue May 07 1991 08:3710
    	I was in Labrador last year and was fishing for Pike. We used
    the biggest Dare Devils available like the previous notes said. I
    also used the Yellow colored Mepp's spinner found in the Bass Killer
    Kits that Mepp's sell. The Pike chewed this thinge to bits!
    	Gloves for handling these monsters are nice for a good grip! We
    used a guide but didn't like his technique of grabbing the Pike by
    the eyes!
    	Bring bug spray for those nasty black flies.
