Jig Tying Does anyone out there tie thier own fishing jigs? I just got back into it after a six year layoff because a deer hunting friend gave me some tails and a nice sized piece of uncured hide to use. The last batch I did were sort of a cross between a muddler and a crayfish and sank much slower than standard commercial ones. The deer hair is hollow and holds a lot of air so that the ones I tied on sixteenth oz. heads are almost neutrally boyant. What about it, anyone roll yer own? Larry Bass

I tie 1/8 and 1/4 oz jig heads with a sand eel pattern for mackeral. I tie the same pattern on a 6/0 or 7/0 O'shaugnessy for cod teasers. They work GRRRRRRRREEEEAAAAATTT as Tony would say... I might try plain white bucktail home-rolled for bass this year. Plastic seems to work well and it lasts long enough. Cod, or any fish with teeth will eat plastic after a fish or two. Tim |
