1476.2 | Prescott Park Public Ramp | FSTTOO::GELSOMINI | | Wed Aug 22 1990 13:16 | 16 |
| Hi Steve,
I put in at Prescott park in Portsmouth and go out to the Isles all the
time. Boat ramp is OK, plenty of parking,and the best part is it's
free. Also, there is a commercial fishing pier across the street where
I pick up a bucket full of herring for 2 bucks. When the blues aren't
hitting on the plugs, I've found that they go for the bait. It's hard
for me to give you directions because I don't know the street names,
but you could as anyone downtown portsmouth and they should be able to
help you. If you want, I could meet you somewhere and you could follow
me. I'll probably go out friday pm and then again on Sunday. As far as
miles to the isles, I would guess about 10 miles. The Pisquitaqua river
has a good current to it so be cautious. I've never gone out of the
Merrimack so I can't compare it to that. Hope to see you out there,
maybe you'll bring me some luck!!

1476.3 | Boat Launch in Southern Me. | TALLIS::DREW | | Tue Aug 28 1990 10:15 | 18 |
| There's a ramp in Kittery off of Rt103. It's a steep ramp and at low
tide it could be a problem if you have a large boat and don't have a
truck to pull it out. You don't run into the swift current problem here
that you do up river in Portsmouth. From the mouth of the river it's
about 5-6 miles to the Shoals. I don't know if there a fee.
A little further up the coast there's a ramp in York off of Rt1A. The
ramp is easier to put in and take out. There is a slight problem at
dead low again if you have a large boat and no truck. The fees here are
$2 for less than 20ft and $5 for above 20ft. From the mouth of the York
River it's about 8 miles to the shoals. If your looking for bluefishing
and you launch from York you may want to try York Ledge about 3.4 miles
and 165 deg from the bell bouy at York or Boon Island about 6.5 miles
and 110 deg from the bell bouy.
Good luck, the blue fishing has been slow this year.

1476.4 | Pierce Island in Portsmouth N.H. | AIRPRT::VAILLANCOURT | | Tue Aug 28 1990 13:45 | 20 |
| Hi Steve,
Depending on where your coming from, I think the launch at Pierce Island in
Portsmouth is real easy and its free, also there is a bait shop handy -
right
across from where the launch is and is open just about anytime (I've
bought Bait at 5:00am before) The Isle of shoal is about 7 to 8 miles
from the mouth of the river. Be careful of the river, its tends to be
more rough than the oceans at times. The Pierce Island entrance is
near Strawberry Bank and Prescott Park, its easy to find coming from
101 to 108 follow the signs to Wentworth. If you need detailed
directions you can call me at dtn 264-1354. The blue fishing has been
slow this year so far - or should I say for ME...
Tony G. I want to know how many Herring you get for $2.00 sound like
a good deal, also you said commerical fishing Peir ? I didn't realize
they sold bait. What time are they open ? Do you know if they sell Ice?

1476.5 | Rye Harbor looks best for me... | DECSIM::DEMBA | | Tue Aug 28 1990 13:51 | 10 |
| The closest launch ramp for me from Mass is Rye Harbor, and it is
almost a due east run (6-7 miles, like Joe Amato wrote) to the Isles
from there.
Since this will be my first trip to the Isles, is there any special
cautions to be aware of in this area?
thanks, Steve

1476.6 | reefs | CSMET2::WOOD | | Tue Aug 28 1990 14:22 | 6 |
| If your a little off in your navigation, and end up coming in slightly
to the North of Rye on your return trip, there are some reefs that,
depending on the tides are just under the surface of the water...
watch out! Good luck...
