1472.1 | Be very cautious.

| A couple of years ago I took my Crawdad on Sebago Lake in Maine. Unless
the water is dead flat the Crawdad is very unsuitable for big water. Even
the wake from passing boats will set up severe rocking. I found that by
keeping close to the shore you had protection.
The Crwadad is only rated for 5Hp so putting on a 7.5 HP will cause you
problems epsecially if you have an accident.
Its not power you need for the larger lakes is freeboard.
Would I take it again - Probably but will be very careful. Get out of any
chop and wind and stay in sheltered water.
My $0.02 worth.

1472.2 | temp could be 90 or 35 | SALEM::JUNG | | Tue Aug 14 1990 15:55 | 10 |
| i can tell you alittle bit about umbagog. for one thing it's going
to be quite a long ride to that island in a crawdad, and that's
with the wind at your back. i was there 2 years ago in august. to
say the least it was very cold. we just missed the 90 degree weather
the week before. windy...very! didn't get in much fishing due to
the weather but still had a good time just enjoying the scenery.
as far as the lake goes, it for the most part is very shallow. the
hole down by where you'll be goes to 60+ feet deep and is supposed
to hold trout/salmon. the lake has very little human inhabitants,
just alot of eagle, moose etc.

1472.4 | It was great ! | SALEM::BOHANEK | | Thu Aug 23 1990 14:35 | 18 |
| The trip was great !! No problems at all, I did have to make two trips
out to the island though, one with the wife and daughter and one with
the gear. The weather was great, we saw some egales, hawks, heron,
ducks, and " whitetails on the mainland ". Fishing was great 50 - 60
white and yellow perch (NO BASS BUMMER, despite looking like an awesome
basslake)Friday eve and Saturday AM.
Sunday morning there was a good wind blowing and the lake had
whitecaps but the boat did fine with a load in it, but when i had to run
back to the island myself to get the gear it was a little rougher/
slower trip.
We'll be doing it again next year. Definitley bring warm sleeping
bags, it's starting to cool off at nite.

| BTW the trip to the island 2.5 miles took 20 min loaded and 15
unloaded.

1472.6 | How'd it handle? | KAHALA::PRESTON | Between Iraq and a hard place... | Fri Aug 24 1990 11:19 | 13 |
| How did the Crawdad handle that 7.5 gamefisher? It's over the
recommended limit, but if it's light enough maybe you did ok. (And
maybe they set the limits a little low, knowing people will exceed
them..?)
I had a 5hp gamefisher on my crawdad last year for a while (then sold
it), and after getting used to it found it quite easy to handle and
actually wished it was even faster. At full tilt on a good sized lake
(Paugus Bay, Winnipesaukee) it still took me a while to get from one
point to another, but it was a lot faster than that trolling motor that
I use now...

| The boat and motor appeared to do fine, the transcom is still there as
well as all of the screws still are in place.
The only problem I have with it is, not knowing if it is unlawful to
use or not. The tag on the boat does not say MAX HSP 5 it says...
2-3 person
400 lbs max weight
5 hsp
Does anybody know for sure ? There was a note in boats listing NH boating
laws, it didn't mention max hsp.
