1453.0. "Fishing/Canoeing in Goffstown, NH Area?" by BCSE::DESHARNAIS () Tue Jul 10 1990 11:05

I've search this notes file for something specifically in my area, but
    haven't had much luck.

I would like to go fishing and canoeing with my 5 year old son. What
would be ideal is a quiet pond or lake with mostly canoe or electric
motor traffic. The fishing doesn't have to be really great; just
enough to keep a five year old happy. We throw them back anyways.

Can anyone recommend a pond in the Goffstown area? We are willing to
travel 15 or 20 minutes if necessary. Since I live in New Boston near
the Goffstown line, something in that area would be ideal.

    Regards,
    Denis

Denis, I'm not familiar with the ponds in that area, but I can suggest
picking up Clark's NH fishing guide. Armed with Clark's and the Delorme
NH Atlas I'm sure you could find just what your looking for.

    good luck, donmac

... Yeah, but Clark's seems to have only the BIG lakes/ponds (if this is
the map I'm thinking of - the beige book).

re: .0 You might check out Clough State Park, situated between rte 114
and rte 13 (north on 114 out of the center). It's pretty quiet - no motor
boats. Also, right near "downtown" Goffstown is a nice little spot just
above the dam that I've heard called "Glen Lake". This is pretty
good, but sometimes attracts oversized (for the lake) p-boats.

The beige book is Delorme's NH fishing maps, and your right, that book
only covers a few, mostly large, lakes. IMHO, Delorme's is pretty useless
when compared to Clark's for info on bassin water.

Clark's is a large blue book that has almost every warm puddle in the
state. It should be available at better tackle shops. It's at Zylas
    and Northen Bass for sure.

ps: on the other hand Delorme's NH Atlas is a MUST to help you find all
them honeyholes that you read about in Clarks!

I recall that there is great panfish fishing in the Pisquataquog River
in Goffstown itself (and yes, I'm sure that is not how it is spelt :-),
probably, though, LOTS of motorboats there. (I remember getting into
huge schools of white perch...lots of fun...)

Take the boy to Otter Pond, Greenfield State Park in Greenfield.
They have a real nice swimming area, a 6 MPH speed limit on the
lake, and great bass and pan fishing. It cant be amy more than
10 miles or so from Goffstown.
