1451.0. "Cape Cod fishing" by GNPIKE::HANNAN (Beyond description...) Mon Jul 09 1990 12:19

I'm heading down to Centerville in Cape Cod (near Hyannis)
next week for vacation, and was wondering about good fresh and
salt water fishing spots down the Cape...

In a ILIW note, SENIOR::PENNING mentioned great bluefishing
	at a Cape beach. Where is this ? I don't have surf-casting
gear, but maybe I could use my deep-sea rig (7' jigging rod).

Can anyone recommend any charters for cod/haddock(!)/etc ?

I've also heard of huge pickeral down the cape. Any recommendations
	or comments ?

	Thanks,
Ken (who needs a vacation badly, and would really like to get in some
fishin' while away with the family)

you could try the state park, there are some nice ponds w/trout
Cliff and little cliff and several others. info can be obtained
thru Fish & Wildlife rt135 Westboro,at any State Park or the Red Top
Bait Shop at the bridge on the Cape. The Canal can be good.Bait shops
    are excellent source of info

My original reply got clipped -

    - I'll second the recommendation on Redtop and add Cape Cod Rod and
Reel ( 755-7543). Why dont you rent a surf outfit (or buy a cheapo)
it will expand your alternatives considerably.

In any event, Falmouth harbor has more charter boats than Beacon Hill
has lawyers. And there is one, and perhaps two, half day bottom fishing
boats operating out of the harbor. Call the c of c for details.

With a heavy rod, the canal is probably your best bet. Float a herring
or soak bait on the North end jettys (cape cod bay) or the Herring run
area or buy the railroad bridge. (mainland side) The water off the parking
lot at the school can be pretty good as well. Bring or rent a bike and
you can ride along the canal's service road - very nice day trip -
Someone said the marina at the north end also rents small boats....?

Sorry, but I dont know the local ponds.

    							good luck

    Cape Cod!

My favorite subject! I would definetly adivise buying or renting
a surf casting rod, I could not imagine life without one. I fish mostly the
lower cape- From Orleans to P-town. A few places on the ocean side of
the Cape that I have had some serious fishing encounters have been-
Nauset Beach in Orleans, Lacounts Hollow in Wellfleet, Cahoons Hollow
in Wellfleet, Race point in P-town. On the Bay side of things- best bet
is to ask at BAIT SHOPS! I usually hit First Encounter in Eastham,
Sunken Meadow beach in Eastham, and also Herring cove in P-town. The
Blue fish are everywhere this time of year- the really big stippers
move in later in the summer. There were some earlier notes entered in
this file under BLUES that have some great recommendations on charter
boats- like 6 people to a boat and you are gaurenteed fish and lots of
them. We usually rent a small 14' boat in Wellfleet harbor and take a
cruise in that- I forget the name of the place- but we always come home
    with fish.

Well good luck and I wish I could join you and give you a private tour
    of my special spots!

I can't wait for my turn in August!

Good luck and be prepared for a great fight!@
