Now THAT'S a total contradiction! There's no place that's CLEAN once the
Legend has been there! And you CAN'T FISH...so why bother?

There's no swimming at Massabesic (sp?) though, as it's Manchester's
reservoir. Oh sure, you can take your oil-, gas-, and bilge-leaking power
boat in there, just don't get your feet wet. :-(
I've fished from the banks there and have had good luck with small stuff.
Will probably try it in a canoe later this year.

| That's why I won't fish Massabesic! I also don't like fishing it from
a canoe. I fished it one day and by the time I got down in the back
of the "FANG" my trollmotor died and the wind picked up. Of course
the wind was against me all the way back. My son was 5 at the time.
He still talks about that day!
Legend
Keith Dilsworth, where else do you go over in Ringe? Have you fished
Gilmore? Is that water good for swimming too?
There is a great looking place out on 119 heading into New Hampshire.
I asked a fella if it was Mass or NH...he said, Mass...and I had to be
a member of the club to fish it! I just pointed to my hat and said,
"I'M THE LEGEND OF THE LAKES...AND I FISH WHERE I PLEASE"
He shrugged his shoulders...and didn't seem impressed!
Anyone belong to this club? It is on the left...just before you hit
the border.

Legend,
I belong to that club, if your referring to
Swallow Hill in Ashburnham Ma on 119. It is a MEMBERS ONLY,
club. Police do take notice of trespassers, (non-members)
because of some problems in the past. So if you go, just don't
get caught. BTW its the Fitchburg Sportsmen Club.

Legend,
I know that you were joking, just wanted to let everyone
else know that in case they decided to fish in the area. Hey, I
caught me some nice smallmouth there last weekend, in the 2-3 pound
range. If you ever see someone with a grey escort or grey mercedes,
its probably me. The area yeilds some nice pickerel, perch,
bluegill and others. The small pond near the club house is stocked
with brown and brook trout in the 12-18 inch range. The best I've
done so far was a 13.5 inch brook. I'm usually there evey weekend.

Even though you didn't spell the Legend correctly...AGAIN!
I will be a bigger person and give you some info.
I stopped into the small tackle store right at the site on Friday.
The fella in there was saying PURPLE with a Pink fire tail was working
real well a couple of nights ago. He said the color that usually does
real well is MOTOR OIL. He has never caught a bass out of there on
anything but rubber. I am not a big worm fisherman...so I need to
give the worm more time on GRASSY POND.
Why don't you and Lavender come over tomorrow night! I'll carve a
capital "L" in your forehead...backwards! That way there..everytime
you look in the mirror...you'll see the CORRECT way to spell LEGEND!

Jack, Gitzit, The Skoal Bandit, The Doctah, TBDW, Ranger Bob, Don
Bourgault, Spinnerbait Dilsworth, or Bass-O-Matic and a few I didn't
name. I will even give you some tips on wormin, but it will co$t

| Thanks, Legend ! I guess it's true that a man never stands so tall as
when he stoops to help a demented Bandit. Come to think of it, we
stopped at the same Tackle shop, and the guy told us the same stuff.
Could still be good, though. To me, the place is too shallow for
weighted worms, but - ya never know. There's so much cover that a
Spinnerbait would probably let you cover the largest area the quickest,
but "who knows, the night is young and my cell, she is Oh so small..."

anyone got a carrot for this babbling MORON! My fishing BUDDY,
the BANDIT sums it all up....you can cover a lot of turf chuck'in
a spinnerbait...than you can a worm!
I'm not a big fan of the worm because of the time needed to work
it. The Legend likes getting into a lot of fish...QUICK!
Maybe if I was cover with HAIR like you...I could find the
patience to fish the worm correctly. What do you do while
bumping the worm up and down...PICK THE LICE FROM YOUR BEARD?!
There....now that we SHUT THE WABBIT up again...we can get back

I used a black 8"worm with a red fire tail...and got a ton of

| re:19
If the place is to shallow for weighted worms, don't use a weight.
I do over 50% of my bass fishing with worms and almost always use
them without a weight. I use 6 lb. test which will cast a 6" worm with no
added weight.
There are probably more ways to fish a worm as there are to rig them.
The two ways I've had most success with are to just cast a weightless worm
as close to the shoreline as possible and let it sink. I may twitch it once
or twice as it's sinking and after it's been on the bottom but usually, if
I don't get a pickup by the time the worm hits the bottom, I'm not going
to get one. The other way is to use it like a top water lure and drag it
over lily pads. I usually let it sink after I drag it off the edge of the
pads and see if I get a pickup.
I have had some luck using curly tail worms with a slow retrieve
but most of the time I get kibby, perch, and pickeral hits, especially
on the firetail worms. You can usually tell when you get these as
either the tail will be gone or the worm will be cut in half. For the
most part I stick with solid color flat tail worms. Black or purple are
still my first choices but I have had luck with other colors such as blue,
green, motor oil, and natural color. I haven't tried the bubble gum color
yet.
Another rubber bait I've had some good luck with is a 6" green Snatrix
(water snake) but I can't find them anymore.
Hope this helps......RAYJ

1447.22 | I Agree | ASABET::VARLEY | | Wed Jul 11 1990 11:46 | 11 |
| Ray, I've tried both of your methods, and they do work. LJH and I have
been using the worm hooks with the tiny screw type springs attached to
the eye which you run through the worm. Then you stretch the worm
straight back and bury the hook point to make it weedless. We have our
best luck with the 4" "Western (Kalin) Worms" or the black/grape 4"
"Producto" segmented worms.
BTW, don't miss the bubblegum floaters ! Hagerty broke my chops with
'em the first time he used 'em...

| Back to the question...
Try Gregg Lake in Antrim. Take 101 West, then 202 North out of Peterboro;
no turns, just keep going straight. You might pick up 31(?) in Antrim.
Just outside the Antrim village there's a sign on a pole on the left hand
side of the road for "GREGG LAKE".
You launch just past the beach; room for parking maybe 6 vehicles. Swim
near the road, catch smallmouth at the opposite end of the lake. Max
depth is around 41 feet.
I caught a few there last Saturday B^).

Keith I know you hate Massabesic! but this is the highest level of

This could have the impact of the Exxon Valdez if the LEGEND should
slime the water.
