I'm talking about the Fitchburg Sportsmen Association off
Rt. 119. I've only been a member for two years now. I've been
flyfishing at the smaller ponds and bait fishing at the dam and larger
    ponds.

Although I do fish at the Fitchburg Rod & Gun Club too. My
great uncle was president of that club for years.

1438.3How can I join ?HYEND::HAMELINTue Jun 19 1990 14:415
How does one become a member of the Fitchburg Sportmen Association. I
live about two miles away (in Ashburnham) from the club. In the twelve
years that I have lived there, I have only seen activity at the club
about four times (ie winter ice racing). There never seems to be anyone
there ??? Thanks for your help.

I don't have the guidelines on hand, but all you have to do is
fill out an application form. I think you have to be recomended by
a member. The club is having its annual KIDS FISHING DERBY this
Sunday. Saturday there releasing $1500 of trout. But no one may
fish until after the KIDS derby that is.

If you want I can get an application for you. We just had our
final annual meeting for the summer. They are held the first Monday
of the month, but there held at the VFW on the John Fitch Highway
in Fitchburg. I'm sure if you stop by at the DERBY this Sunday,
you can get your hands on an application. Or I can get you one.

From what I've read this club is the second oldest club in the
U.S.A. (Sportsman club that is) I think there are in the neihborhood
of 800-900 members. However, alot of them live out of state.

About activities, they don't hold allot of Derbies, but you can
always find at least a handful of people fishing at one of their
ponds. A least I'm there once a week fishing. The best I've done
this year there was a 24 inch, 3.75lb. pickerel.

Thanks for the reply! I would greatly appreciate it if you would get me
an apllication as I will be out of the area and at a wedding on Sunday.
I currently belong to the Turnpike R & G Club in Ashburnham but have
been unable to find a sponsor or meet a member of the Fitchburg
Sportsmens Club that would sponsor me...I'll keep looking but thanks
for the info. Nice catch! I knew of a former club member that used to
hunt snapping turtles out that way. He'd provide them to varios clubs
    for their game dinners .

    Thanks again,
