1362.0. "Angler's Diplomacy" by FRAGLE::MACDUFFIE (Daily Training) Wed Mar 21 1990 12:09

You know how it is when you find that great spot that turns out
great action summer or winter. Well, I found this great spot at
"The Meadows" located in Whitinsville Ma. I could go to this place
and gatch fish all day long. Three of us would catch 20 fish, good
size game fish in the course of 4 hours, consistently.

Here's the bad side. We are fishing on a state or town owned causeway
which abuts a residential home. We arrive early on the weekends and
this German Shepard "junk yard Dog" goes absolutely nuts barking at us.
This guy comes out of his house (three times now) and shouts to us that
his dog has gone thru his glass front door twice to get tresspassers.(oh boy
do we want a piece of this dog!) He also says that he is going to call
the cops and that the fine is $150....like he does this all the time.

The causeway we are on; if anyone is familiar with it, is right off of
main street on the right hand side going away from RT146. The causeway
does have a 'No Tresspassing" sign. Let's be real here, people fish
here all the time. Eating the humble pie and walking away from this spot
really sucks, all the guy has to do is keep his dog inside. We're being
threatend cause this guy wants to sleep past 10:00 on Saturdays

Now that I've vented a bit, anyone have any experience similiar to this?
Are the cops really going to fine us? How real are those 'No Tresspassing'
signs? There are not any no fishing signs if thats any consolation.

Thanks,
-David

If posting this here provides some good feedback, maybe I'll tell you about
the Women out at Stiles:^)))

Sounds like your best bet is to go right ahead and ask the cops
yourself. The guy might have put that sign up himself.

If you go to the Whitinsville Board of Assesors (or what ever community
handles that area) you can ask to see the maps and find out EXACTLY who does
own the causeway and any access points to it. I gather you are assuming the
town owns it. If it is privately held land (such things do happen), you may be
able to obtain written permission to fish there from the owner, in which case
you may POLITELY inform the ill-mannered gentleman that you have said
permission and he can stick it... If not then perhaps access to your "honey
hole" could be better made via boat, launching from the roadside you mentioned,
in which case the dog is still annoying, but hardly a threat.

Speaking of Stiles, is there a public access where I could dump a
16' alum. boat off a trailer and get it back on without getting
    arrested?

    Rich,

No there is no public access to Stiles. Only privately owned ramps.
you can fish off the causeway but it gets played out pretty quit each
year. Hey Mcduffie... Who are you, how often to you visit Spencer??
I live in Spencer and know all the honey holes, whos this lady???

Hey rich anytime you want to hit Stiles with a boat let me Know,

There is another D-Head in Natick on Lake Urine, here is my story..

I have fished a certain cove on the lake since I was 10 so that
was about 2 years ago.I have walked down an access road to get
to this spot. Now they have sold land around the access road and
there is houses and a road that ends in a circle and the circle
has a gate to the access road.Problem is everytime we park at
the circle and walk around the gate to the spot this guy comes
out (like he's got nothing better to do than look out his window)
and harasses (sp) us to no end. There are NO no parking signs on
the street (public way?) the only No Trespassing signs are 30
feet away from where we cut around the gate on his property and
the State owns at least 10 to 100 yards of shore all the way
around the lake. Can the police do anything to us?? Can we use
the police to get him off our backs??? He keeps this up and
someone will be using him as a fishfinder!!!! Would the town
          selectman do anything for us???

The Keg (with cinderblocks at the ready)

    Les,

    >>>Hey Mcduffie... Who are you,

                      I'm you're worst Nightmare!!...-:^)))

I try to get to Stiles at least 4-5 times a month. A couple of friends
have houses on the Lake...do the names Rafferty and Dufault ring any
    bells?

You guys,..come on, The thing about the Lady is 'just' another HARASSMENT
story. She thinks she owns the first causeway there, first time I fished
there her husband came out and was really friendly, haven't seen hide or
hair of him since...just this Lady shooing us away.

In the boat I like to fish around the big island and over by the dam.
I've never tried lower Stiles but I heard it has mongo pickeral...

I've also heard good things about Cranberry lake/pond?

So,...now back to those honey holes of yours?....

    David,

It is nice to see that you still have your priorities straight!
First fishing then the chicks! In reference to your problem, you can
be fined up too 250.00 smackers for trespassing. Or you could have
your car towed. If of course this land has been posted by the owner.
A pond that we fish, that is posted and privately owned, we had to
get a written note from the guy who owns the land just to park in the
street! By the way this pond is so packed with bass- remember my thumbs
from lipping fish that day in school- over 100 in the boat, well this
guy decided that there is only one way to control the bass. Put in 150
fish that would eat the population back down to a healthy level.
Hummm.... what type of fish might that be?? Right on Tiger Muskie!

So MacDuff- when are you going to come visit my new house and spend
an afternoon at my favorite trout hole?? Soon I hope- the rainbows
are going nuts! Biggest one so far has been 17 1/2 in. was also my
    first of the year.

    Wildman

PS: Did I ever show you the pictures of my 11 point buck? Not bad for
my first time out, first hour, first shot!
