1341.1 | drag problems ??? | HYEND::WOOD | | Thu Mar 01 1990 12:47 | 11 |
| Don,
I bought one and it had a very uneven drag on it. You
can't feel it by thumbing the spool when it's new, but
once I got line on it you could feel a tiny little
studder as you pull it out against the drag. I'm not sure
if it would really make a difference bringing in a fish,
but it kind of annoyed me more then anything else...It
doesn't necesarily mean that that's a characteristic of
all 320s either...

1341.2 | I'm a 320 GTi fan | DECWET::HELSEL | Legitimate sporting purpose | Thu Mar 01 1990 13:04 | 32 |

Let's see....you must use it to fish for Salmon on Lake Ontario.
Is that a reasonable guess?
I've got a 320 Gti and I really like it. It's kind of overkill for
the silvers and whatnot around here, but I use it when the kings are
in town. I normally use a Penn 10 for salmon up to 15 lbs. When we're
hunting for something bigger, I use my 320 GTi.
I like the 320 GTi better than my 10s and 209s. I had some funny
occurances with my reel as described in .1 Then I sat down one night
and took it apart and cleaned it up. I found out that through some
minor adjustment, I could get it to work perfectly. Now I love the
reel. It has given me hundreds of hours of trouble free service.
The beef I have with this reel is that Penn doesn't make a similar
style in a smaller verion such as the Penn 10. I would gladly trade
my Penn 10 for a similar sized 320 and I love my Penn 10.
Reels are a hard thing to recommend. One guy thinks it's a great reel
and the next guy hates it. As a devoted Penn fan, I find the 320 to be
a super reel at a reasonable price. If it were me, I'd keep it. The
one caveat that I would throw in is that you really have to have fish
big enough to need a 320.
If you lived nearby, I'd let you try mine out ;-)
Hope this helps, fwiw,

1341.3 | It's the Big "O"! | USRCV1::FRASCH | | Fri Mar 02 1990 13:59 | 10 |
| Right on! The big "O" for Salmon is the place. Largest to date is
33 lbs on a 210F with 17 lb test Trylene.
The 320 GTi looks great and has some nice features. I'm just so
used to the 210s that I'm a little "Chicken" to change.
Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to keep the 320 !! (Don't want
my Son to feel bad either.)

| In reference to the penn 320 gti.I have been very happy with it.
I basically fish the cape cod canal with it and find i can cast
it fairly decent with a 5 or 6 oz. weight.the drag seems to work
fine on blues.The only problem i ave run into is the screw on
the side of the reel. It seems to loosen up fairly easy.
other than that i like the reel for it,s price.

Don,
I hope you didn't swap your GTI. I know this is a year late, but
I've been off to UVM for the last 1 1/2 years.
I've got 2 of the GTI's on Shimano light downrigging rods and love
them. I also plan to have more. They worked super out at Oak Orchard
Creek (Point Breeze ) las August on the King's.
