1322.0. "Fish story of the year" by DELNI::MCDONOUGH () Tue Feb 06 1990 20:55

I don't want to talk about this to much but I wanted everyone to know
that I caught the biggest fish at the Winni derby.
This story starts out with my older brothers (3) wanting to go ice
fishing for the first time in their lives including me. Last Friday
my brother John drove up from N.Y. we went to the Kittery Trading post
in Maine and bought every thing that we would need for Saturday. We
planned on going to Alton bay. Saturday morning we drove up to Alton
(Steve, Matt, John and I) we planned on making a day of it so we
brought lunch with us which consisted of Ham, some fruit and drink.
We stopped where the Mount Washington boat docks and asked someone if
this was a good place to Ice fish. The man replyed yes! So we dropped
anchor. We went into the marina and bought licences.
All morning no bites. at about 1:00 we decide to eat lunch. This is
when the fun starts. My oldest brother John opens the can of imported
ham and the flagggggggggss go up 2 out of 4 are flying. Steve and I
run to one. Matt and John to the other. They had a small Salmon on.
Steve and I had a Lake Trout. I had to put my arm in up to my shoulder
to pull him out. He was over 28 inches long and weighed over 7 lbs.
We decided not to cut him up but to mount him. So before bringing him
to be mounted I cut this tag of that was dangling on his back side and
see that it says the N.H. fish and game dept on it. Sunday I get
curious and call the people at the lake and they tell me that it looks
like I have caught the biggest fish in the tourny and I've won all
kinds of good stuff including a boat.
The guy on the end of the phone askes me for my name?
        Patrick McDonough
O.K. Patrick do you want us to deliver the boat or would you like
          to pick it up?
       I can pick it up!!
Oh! one more thing Patrick What is your Tourny entry No.
        Ah... Ah...
          Tourny No.
          What tourny No.
    (Can you belive it?)
I didn't buy a tourny No. I didn't know any thing about it.

Okay, so what were you using for bait? And what size?

I've had pretty good luck with suckers lately, and have started to use
bigger bait. Just wondering whether your fish is part of the big bait
    big fish theory.

I was using shiners about 2 1/2 inches long. Something I forgot to
mention was that we are all fly fisherman and the only line we had to
use was four pound test...... and while all this was happening a pack
of dogs ate the ham we were going to eat for lunch.

     I still don't understand?
