I've heard that winter trout stream fishing is highly productive when usin aan artificial lure made to resemble a maggot. What is the correct name for it and how do you present this lure using a spincaster? /stan

Just but real maggots on real hooks. They are also called "meal worms". Fish like you would a nightcrawler. Let me (us) know how this works out! | |||||

Any of you fisherpersons have any luck fishing for trout in open water on a partially frozen lake? For those of you famailiar with lake Quinsig. in Worc. the end where most people fish for trout in the spring is now open water. I've been thinking of giving it a try. any suggestions? Walt | |||||

Stan, I take a shot... maggots, and meal worms are good bait for trout in streams or through the ice. Bait stores also have mousies, a maggot with a small white tail, these work very well. For stream fishing them I would use an ultra light rod and reel w/ 4 lb line and a 10 hoook and open the gap of the hook slightly add split shot and drift the bait into the pools. You cam also jig this bait when ice fishing. As far as artifical, I think you would be reffering to a weighted nymph. It can be fished with with a fly rod or a ultralight set up. I have been getting some nice trout thru the ice this winter, all on shiners and mant of them on large shiners. Johnny Roach |
