1277.0. "Fishing in Arkansas" by DECWET::BURFENING (The STEELHEAD are back!) Fri Nov 17 1989 13:34

I will be traveling to Arkansas to visit a friend for about a week around
Thanksgiving. Although we will be in Hot Springs we will also be making a
side trip or two down to Mississippi or wherever else seems interesting.

Never having been out of the Pacific Northwest, I haven't got a clue about
where to go fishing in that part of the country. Anybody out there have
any suggestions? While I enjoy fishing for anything in any kind of water, my
real favorite around here is steelheading, especially on the Olympic Peninsula.
In Arkansas, I would just like to find a couple of nice scenic spots to try
my luck, preferably for day trips from Hot Springs--any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat

A few suggestions...hopefully the drive isn't too far(don't know where
    Hot Springs, AR is).

I have fished Bull Shoals Lake with some good success. This lake is
HUGE, and I would suggest you get a guide. I have caught all kinds of
bass out of this body of water. There are smallmouths, largemouths,
and what they call a Kentucky bass(different strain I guess). The
guide also told me that there are stripers, trout, and even some big
gars in this lake. Although, if trout fishing is what you prefer. I
would suggest going to the White River. There are some BIG brown
trout, and even some real nice rainbows here. If big fish are what
you are after. Then I would suggest going to Lake Norfolk. There are
some huge stripers in this body of water. I have seen some stringers
of nothing but 30-40lbers. Not bad for a lake...

All of these areas to fish are in the Northeast region of the state.

    Hope this helps!
    Todd
1277.3Thanks, guys!!DECWET::BURFENINGThe STEELHEAD are back!Tue Nov 21 1989 16:3116
Thanks for the suggestions. I am leaving right after work tonight, and am
definitely taking my fishing gear.

Todd, we will be doing some traveling in the NE part of the state, so I will try
and check out the spots you mentioned.

Beazley, I will send you mail about my schedule and maybe Connie and I can take
you up on your offer.

I'll provide a full report when I get back to Seattle.

Thanks again,

Pat
