1251.0. "Deerfield, Swift etc. ?" by TALLIS::CHINNASWAMY () Wed Sep 20 1989 10:58

    Hello,

    I was going to either head up to the Deerfield River or the Swift
    River or the Squanacook River this Saturday for some trout fishing.
    Could someone please give me directions to the Deerfield and the
    Swift from rt. 2 in Leominster. Also does anyone have any opinion
    on which one of the above three I should choose? Also, I was going
    to try to fish the catch and release section of the deerfield if
    I go there.

    					Thanks!!!!

     I don't fish the Swift, but I can help with the Deerfield. Go West
    on rte 2 past Charlemont and take a right at the Mohawk Indian Bridge.
    The whole stretch is gorgeous all along there. Don't overlook the
    Miller's river just Before the Town of Erving, off rte 2. Kind of
    lightly fished, and real pretty gorge-like.

    	If the trout in the catch and release section arent biting,
    you can access a nice section of the deerfield in Charlemont its
    a left off rt2 marked with a small sign. We tried it this time last
    year and had a feild day on smallmouth bass. Have a good time and let
    us know how you do.

     I think you're talking about "Wilcox Hollow" which is just past
    Shelburne Falls, about a mile on the left after Gould's Sugar House.
    About 1/2 mile of bad dirt road, but worth the trip.

    Can you launch a small boat like a Crawdad there?

	We fish from a canoe. The launching area is canoe and cartoppers
only, so your crawdad should be fine.

1251.7Any Deerfield Fishermen/fisherwoman??WMOIS::G_PELLETIERFri Apr 13 1990 12:0012
    I'm looking for information on the Deerfield river, general area
    would be between the Hoosac Tunnel and Charlemont.

    I'm thinking about bringing the boys fishing next Wednesday (4-18-90)
    and want to make sure it isn't a wasted day.

    Has anyone fished it lately?
    Has it been stocked yet?
    Any recomendations?

    Thanks in advance,
    George

	Not much information, but my brother was fishing it last weekend
(around the same area.) He said the water was still too high.
