1224.1 | NOT A "KNOCK-OUT" PLACE, BUT... | CPDW::ALUKONIS | | Wed Aug 23 1989 08:49 | 13 |
| Vin;
My buddy and I fished Moosehorn last month. What you heard about
quiet, and no skiers is true--there's no way to put anything with an
engine in there. They have a great launch, except for the very large
steel gate about 20 yds up from the water, so I hope you have a canoe
or car topper. As for the fishing, it was fair--my buddy caught a
couple of average size bass, and I caught one bass, and a yellow perch.
It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great, either! Good Luck to ya!

1224.3 | DON'T KNOW IF ITS WORTH THE TRIP, BUT.... | CPDW::ALUKONIS | | Wed Sep 13 1989 09:25 | 13 |
| I'll give the directions a go... Take 190 to rte 2 West. Get off on
the second Gardner exit Rte 68. Stay on Rte 68 for about 3-4 miles.
You will see a sign for Watchusett Lumber Co. on the left, take that
left. You will be on a winding back road for about a mile, then you
will see a sign on the left that says Fisheries & Wildlife public
launch area...You're there! I hope you have a canoe or car-topper
because there is a huge barrier about 25 yds up from the water!
I hope you have better luck than me and my buddy did!
hope this helps ya!

| -1. I think that it is South.But to be sure if you are coming from
RT190 (west on RT 2) once you take the second Gardner exit
(RT 68) stay on the rotary under RT 2 and come off right on
RT 68.
Good luck with the fishes

i think i can help you guys out. i live in worcester about
ten giant steps to the airport. i've fished moosehorn a number
of times and have had some real good luck (3+lb lg mouth).the
way i go from worcester is 122 north to RT56 rutland to RT68
once you turn on 68 north drive about 1 mile and you'll see
the pond on your right (you can't miss it).
good luck

p.s. fish the islands worms (plastic)
leadhead grubs (motor oil)
gitzits (black worked well)
p.s.s early or late top water worked great

that's not the moosehorn pond I'm thinking of! Earlier directions
were correct. I've seen the gate across the entrance & was wondering
if a) the fishing was good or poor, & b) why did they put a gate
across it? water quality problem? land ownership issue?
anybody else have any ideas?
thanks for the tip on the pond right off 68. I'll try it sometime.

| note: -1
One of my friend is a part time police officer for Hubardston.
He and I fish there along with other residents. Everyone tried to
watch the pond but could keep the trash from pileing up.
Seems late night fishing and parting went together. High powered
boats and lots of trash was the last straw. The town of Hubardston
sent the one officer on duty, there many time. The gate was the decision
after public notices, barrels and patrols failed.
Any way the water is much quieter now and the fishing better.
