1221.0. "Portsmouth, NH to Portland, ME?" by CHEZIT::T_THEO (In the woods) Tue Aug 15 1989 15:31

I'm headinig to OOB (Old Orchard Beach, ME) this weekend with a
couple of kiddies. I promised them I'd take'em fishin'.

The Boston Globe said the blues are in close, but very spotty. I know
we would all enjoy getiing into some blues. To be perfectly honest
*ANYTHING* is better than catching nothing.

We don't have a boat and I'm not about to take the kids out on a
"swell, dip and puke" charter. So...where are the hot spots between
Portland and Portsmouth? Surfcasting, bridges, jetties?

    Thanks

Try the mouth of the Saco in Biddeford. We use to have good luck
off the breakwater. Just _make sure_ you keep an eye on the tide
    and what it is doing.

I too recommend the mouth of the Saco. I'll also refer you to my
favorite info center in that area, Saco Bay Tackle Co. Cal Robinson is
the owner and is the best source of salt water fishing info in that
area. You can also get bait etc. there. The phone number is
207-284-4453. The shop is on Rt 1 right across from the Aquaboggin.
Tell him I sent you. He gets a kick out of our high tech fishing
    network.

What's the problem with the tide? I'm sure the best time is 1 hour
prior to 1 hour after, but is there some danger I should be aware of?

Thanks for the info and the contact I'll definitely stop in and have
a chat with your friend. Want me to deliver any messages?
I'm familiar with Rte. 1 from Saco to Portland, so finding the place
    shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks again for the replies. I will keep an eye on this topic right
    through tomorrow afternoon.
