1176.1 | Try This! | TRACTR::DOWNS | | Tue Jun 27 1989 08:51 | 8 |
| I've caught them by putting a chunk of meat on a large hook and
attaching it to a heavy wire leader, followed by 40 lb. mono. I
would then throw the meat in about 10 to 15' off shore and tie the
mono to a small tree on shore. After a day or two I'd usually have
a snapper on the line. You just haul them in. They're usually pretty
P.O'ed by the time you land them so be carefull. make sure the piece
of meat is large enough to discourage fish from injesting it. Good
luck and let us know how you made out!

.1 is right about big chunks of meat. Hate to kill hawg. I've
used big dead bluegills ... dead beacause the turtle sees it as
an easy meal ... big bluegills because they're harder for a bass to
swallow. Kills two birds with one stone; rids the pond of bluegills
and turtles.

1176.4 | Bacon and the dog | MED::D_SMITH | | Thu Jul 27 1989 14:43 | 6 |
| I fished a pond regularly in Brighton, MA for snapper. Hotdogs and
bacon are the best. Very oily and smelly. They should pick up on
it fast. We used deep sea fishing line with steel leaders.
The question then is, what to do with it! Eat it? Not me and all
that bottom muck. I believe the snapper shell is of value though.
