If it isn't too much work or too expensive, my cousin and I will be
psyched to do a night tourney.

| Doctah, since this was your original idea, and you haven't run one of
these fiascos yet... if your definitely going to fish, how would you
like to run it? (there's not much to it really)
It's a piece of cake adding lights to an alum boat. You can by cheap
clamp on battery deals or you can buy mountable 'stowaway' (or similar)
lights. I'd also recommend a hand held spot...
donmac - who just remebered the last time out at night his
stern light was out... have to fixe that...

1148.10 | | VAX4::TOMAS | Joe | Fri Jun 09 1989 09:44 | 9 |
| Doctah,
If you're interested, I have bow and stern clamp-on, battery operated lights
that I'd be willing to sell. They've only been used a couple of times. I'm
not sure what I paid for them, but the price would be quite reasonable. If
you're planning to fish Pawtuckaway, I'd bring them with me.

Do I need one of those huge batteries to run the lights? They get kinda
expensive.
Anybody else that's interested in this tourney- speak up now! If we
can't get enough interest to make it worth our while to have a tourney-
maybe we'll just get together for some nice night bass fishing. (Ok- so
we'll have a hawg pool anyhow :-)
Let's get some interest here.

as a partner tourney. Make sure you line up a buddy.
Doctah...the lights are battery operated, ie either C or D-cells (2 each).
You really will only need them on while under way or when other boat traffic
is approaching. Let me know if you're interested.

Hey, Jeff L. .... I think you'd like Pawtuckaway! It's got brush islands,
lots of lily pads and weeds, rocks, islands, drop-offs, etc. It also has
both small and largemouth, althought the smallies are only in one small
area. I've caught several 7+ lbers out of there. You should join us!
I vote for a 3 PM to 10 PM tourney.

Following are the Rules & Regs...
WHERE : Pawtuckaway Lake, Nottingham, NH
WHEN : July 8, 1989 Saturday (RAIN OR SHINE!!)
WHO : Anyone is invited as long as one member of the team is a DEC
employee.
TIME : 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM with a weigh-in at the end.
WHAT : 2 person TEAM event.
FEES : $20/team and $5/person for the Hawg Pool (optional)
LIMITS: 20 bass/team (10 bass per each weigh-in)
SIZE : 12" minimum length, measure with pinched tail.
RULES:
1. HAVE FUN!
2. Violators of Rule #1 may be banned from all future events!
3. ONLY artificial lures allowed - NO live/dead bait allowed (excluding
pork strips/frogs).
3a. ONLY ONE line/person in the water at a time.
3b. NO trolling.
4. "CATCH & RELEASE" policy in effect.
5. 50 Yard Rule - All boats must keep at least 50 yards distance from
another boat's "territory." No crowding-in.
6. PAYOFFS! - There will be a 50%-30%-20% spit of the pool for 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd place teams. The Hawg Pool goes to the person weighing the
heaviest bass. In the event of a tie, both parties will split the
proceeds equally.
7. Starting time will be 3PM prompt from the launch area. All powered boats
with motors > 5 HP will draw for starting positions. Canoes & boats
with < 5 HP will leave AFTER all powered boats depart to prevent

that this event is an all-day affair, it should not be necessary to
grant additional time extensions for the smaller boats.

expected that contestants will do everything in their power to keep
fish in releaseable condition.
10. See Rule #1!

I think that was a mistake. Doctah copied my rules from the Monomonac

From RT 93 (north or south), head East on RT 101. Take Exit 5 (it's marked
Pawtuckway St. Pk.). At the end of the exit ramp, turn right. Go thru one
set of lights (past McDonald's golden arches). At the second set of traffic
lights, turn left (you must go either right or left).
Take your first right (within 50 yards of traffic light). Go approximately
6 miles (do not follow sate park signs - you're not going into the park) to
a small 4-corner intersection. There are several old colonial homes on the
corners of this intersection. Turn left and go about 2.2 miles. The dirt
road to the ramp is on the LEFT and forks off the road in a "Y." Follow the
dirt to the ramp.

Congratulations to all of the participants; they are all winners. But a
special measure of respect must go to the top three teams who managed to catch
plenty of fish where the rest of us merely gave our lures a bath and got
casting practice. :-)
My hat's off to Sandbag-0-matic Vachon and Fatso who so completely fooled
us about getting "skunked." They were the big winners for the day, out earning
the 1st place team by scarfing the hawg pool with a pair of monstrous 5+ lbers.
Quite impressive.
HSJ and FFF did an excellent job as well, catching some fine fish, and
presiding over the weigh in. Thanks for your help HSJ!
Obviously, we can't fail to applaud Keith "Spinnerbait" Dilsworth and the
Ringer for their fine performance, proving that consistency wins tournaments.
Great fishing, guys!
Don Mac & co deserve mention as well, for a fine performance that fell just
short of placing in the money.
The Doctah got skunked, basically. While fooling around before the tourney
started, I caught a 13" bass (which, of course, went right back in). This
obviously pissed off the bass god, eliminating my chances to catch another
decent fish the rest of the day. :-(
All in all, it was a good tourney. I had fun. See you all next time.

| Hey Doctah! nice job on the tourney!! I would like to take this
moment to thank everyone for their hard earn money and hope we
get to do this again soon!!
The reason that we told everyone that we got skunked was a payback
for HSJ because last year at the Stumpfield tourney Joe was checking
everyones live wells and he looked at ours and said "wow, looks
like you guys won!!" so we were in the lead after our weigh in and
then Joe pulls his catch out and beats us out of the first place
and the lunker pool. So we decided to bust HSJ chops this year and
weigh our catch after he weighed his in.
Now for a note on those two beauty's my partner caught. Both 5lbs
were caught on a purple metal flake 8 inch worm in the shallows.
Boy, I couldn't believe it when he pulled the first one in and
then when he caught the second one I knew for sure we were in the
money.

Ok..Ok.. I guess I had it coming. Congrats to Bass-O-Matic & partner for a
great pair of hawgs. And thanks to Doctah for a good job and all others for
joining in on this fun event.
Chris & I had prefished Pawtuckaway last Monday and got on fish in about 12'
of water. I took them on a smoke/red-flake grub. Saturday, we did some
cruising and checked the water temps. We located fish again at 12 feet, and
after checking the water temps, found the thermocline was also at 12-13'.
The water temp would drop from 72 degrees to 67 when it passed thru that
depth. So even though a serious cold front had passed thru the night
before, we both believed that the bass had not been significantly affected
because they were still holding at that depth.
The gun goes off at 3:00 P.M. and we're off. But for 3 solid hours, all we
could produce were about 8-9 shorts. Finally, I decided it was time to
change tactics and head for the shallows. Chris finally nailed a keeper in
2' of water and my first cast into a 3' weed bed with a buzzbait produced a
3lb 11oz bass (our biggest of the night). The same weed bed produced a 3
lber the previous Monday!
At that point we moved into some coves and we caught 5 more keepers...all
with topwater baits. Sad to say, Chris and I BOTH got fish on at the same
time so neither of us could net for the other. I got my bass to the boat
first so I simply lifted it up and over the gunnel. Unfortunately, the big
treble hooks didn't hold and the bass (a 1 lb keeper) hit the gunnel and
flopped overboard. Chris' bass was a dink and did nothing for us! Oh
well....all in all, still a great time!
NOW...WHEN ARE WE DOING IT AGAIN???
WHO'S READY FOR A STUMPFIELD TOURNEY IN EARLY AUGUST??
