| Right, Ed. The law says "...propelled by machinery..."
It gets better; you need the red & green lights etc if you're out after dark.
And seat belts, air bags... catalytic converters are on the way...

| In NH you also need a fire extinguisher, horn, etc....
Canoes with elec. motors have to be registered in Maine as well, not
sure what accessories ME requires...

| Bill, don't feel bad!! I spent over 4k on my boat and hated the
idea of putting on these monster LETTERS on the side of my boat
just to let the state know that my boat is registered. Plus I had
to drill holes for my plate last year (which is staying on)
Just think of the guys that spent over 10k for their boats with
a nice metal flake paint job!! Then I dont feel so bad.

| I have to get my new (used) crawdad registered ASAP. Can anybody
tell me where I go to get this done in the Lowell area?
Also, do they include the motor in the registration, ie. do they
use the motor's serial number in the title? A friend of mine seemed
to think so, but he wasn't sure, and I've never done this before...
Thanks,
Ed

| You can get it done in Worcester on Grove st. Its in the tax building
They only take checks!
You need the hull S/N, and Motor S/N.
I think you may even have to pay tax, and if you already have bring the
receipt.

Worcester is the nearest place to Lowell where you can register your
boat? Do you have to do it in person?

| You can mail it in, they send it back the same day. Send a SASE.
I told them I didn't have the motor yet, there is no box on the
registration for a motor #.

| Since I will be going to NH on vacation in a couple of days, and
since my family owns a condo up there, is it kosher to register
it in NH? That is where it will mainly be used. Anybody ever
done this? It sure would be a lot easier than going/mailing to
Worcester, then getting a secondary use sticker for NH. Then that
would create a problem with using it in Mass... arggh..!

My remmendation is to register it in Mass and then get a secondery sticker
from N.H....How close are you to Nashua st in Boston, you down by the
Boston Garden, I was in and out of there in 15 mins, and N.H. cost was $14
for my 12'/9.8 Merc.
Have fun,

| Bruce,
You're probably right. I'm closer to Worcester myself. Maybe I'll
go first thing Friday morning (I'm on vacation then). Hopefully
it won't take a long time.
$14?? I thought it was $30 now (for 2 years).
BTW, do they consider the motor when determining sales tax?
Thanks,
Ed

| It's $30 now, tell them you don't have a motor yet. Like I said,
there's not even a space on the registration for the motor.

Well, I did it. Went to Worcester on Friday (first day of vacation
for me) and registered the crawdad. Since the bill of sale included
the motor, I had to pay sales tax on that, too... arrgh! If I had
a bill of sale for the boat only, I would only have had to pay tax
on that! Live and learn...
Then I got a secondary use sticker in NH. Only cost $27 for a year
(six months, actually. It expires on Dec 31)
Oof, $57 for the privilege of fishing from my little crawdad...
