1136.0. "Fishing videos" by CTCSYS::POPIENIUCK () Tue May 16 1989 14:18

    I'm a dad with three young kids who love to fish with me. Boy 14,
    boy 12 and daughter 10. Since they don't live with me, activities
    are limited to weekends and occasional longer visits. We've got
    a trip planned to the Rangeley area for Memorial Day weekend. The
    kids may be more excited about it than me and I can't wait!

    One thing I'd like to be able to do is rent an occassional video
    tape on fishing to heighten their interest while at the same time
    teaching them a bit more of the finer points. (Also, this dad doesn't
    approve of the Friday the 13th, Part 98 and Halloween XXXVII videos
    they want to rent.)

    Anyone got suggestions on video cassettes (rental) that have a good
    balance of action and instruction and that would interest kids?
    (It should just be panfish either. These kids have trolled for
    salmon and trout as well as gone many times with me on the ice jigging
    for bass, etc.)

    FYI for other single dads. try taking your kids fishing with you,
    but make sure the experience is pleasurable for them. The same
    bone-chilling cold rainy day that you or I would go out in might
    leave a youngster with a bad memory that could take a long time
    to get over. If you do it right, you'll have fishing partners for
    the rest of your life (as well as getting or staying close to your
    kids).

    (One paragraph back should have said, "It shouldn't just be
    panfish....")

1136.1Bass Tatics That WorkSTOWMA::LANGEToxic Waste PinataTue May 16 1989 14:3511
    Larry Nixon has a video out call "Bass Tatics That Work"...
    Very informative.
    underwater shots of how to bump crankbaits,and hop Texas rigged worms
    goes thru just about every lure for Bassin'.
    The video was done in Coonass country,but it's info is pretty
    generic,and most of it would apply to us north easterners.

    Not alot of Fish catchin is done on this video....it's structured more
    to the "How To" of fishing different plugs,and jigs,and worms...

    If I had a second VCR I'd make a tape of it for you....
1136.2"Fishing the Dry Fly" EXIT26::DROSSELHave Flyrod --> Will TravelTue May 16 1989 14:4115

    3M has several videos featuring Gary Borger fishing various hotspots.
    Probably one of the all-around best is the "Fishing the Dry Fly"
    hosted by G.Borger.  It's an EXCELLENT trout/flyrod video...it does
    center on fishing the Dry fly and Gary talks a lot...but his relaxed
    and personal manner, accompanied with the settings of the Madison
    River, Armstrong Spring Creek and Henry's Fork....really convey
    the beauty of rivers and the surrounding landscapes. I look at
    it as a general flyfishing for trout video...although there are
    other videos with more basic titles. You really can't go wrong
    with this one..........

                         Joe Whittemore - From where the Westfield
                                               meets the Westfield
                                                  by the Westfield

  I really liked "Jimmy Houston's Guide to Bass Fishing". Very informative
and funny (Jimmy's got this strange humor). I've seen many of the others
but think this one is a great fishing lesson if you're out for basic BASS
techniques...
