1115.0. "lake winnisquam" by VIDEO::MCNULTY () Wed Apr 26 1989 08:05

well my boat is finally in the water. Now if it was only Friday.
I keep my boat in a slip at jay's marina on lake winnisquam, and
was wondering if any of you noter's have a boat up there?? Maybe
    we
could swap some of our hot spots???? or has anyone fished the lake
yet this year, and how did you make out. I get alot of hook-ups
trolling near the railroad tracks, how about you guys (or girls).
I just put two downriggers, and planing boards on my boat and can't
wait to get out there. I don't think Friday will ever get here!!!
Thanks in advance for your reply's

                                                    Mike McNulty

p.s. I also have a trip booked (useing my boat) on lake Ontario
the second week of May. Any tips?????

Glad to see someone else likes Winnisquam.

I haven't been up there yet this year- worried about there not being
enough open water to fish effectively. I also am without boat, making
it necessary to confine my forays to shore fishing.

We went last year. Fish were rising around us, but we couldn't hook
up. We were fishing the northern (skinny) end of the lake. My
understanding is that the fishing is best at the mouth of the stream or
river that supposedly empties into the lake, due to the spawning smelt
concentrations there. I don't know exactly where that is, or if it's
close to the northern end of the lake.

I am interested in how well you fare this weekend. I may go up there
next weekend. Let us know how you do, where you ketch'um and what you
ketch'um on. Last year we bought a dozen smelt for bait, but I don't
think we fished 'em right (cuz we didn't catch any). Maybe we'll have
    better luck this year.

Nice to see other Winnisquam fans out there. Up till last year I did
alot of fishing and rec boating there 'cause it was alot quieter and
more laid back than the big lake. Last year though, the public access
really tightend up and it seems the boat population just exploded, so
I only went there one time. I mean I had to wait almost 45
minutes to pull out at Martells!

I fished the lake primarily for smallmouth and personally think winnisquam
is a great smallmouth hole. I've had good luck off the point around the
Laconia State school land (I think that's what it's called) and up and
down the west shoreline just north of the big island as well as around
    the island itself.

Hey Tom, I have an ABA tournament on May 21st in Winnisquam, can
you give me any recommendations on where I may start and finish
this tournament?? Look for a big largemouth first or pick on smallies
untill I have a decent 2 fish limit???

Thanks in advance for any info.

P.S. Think if I wore the new Terminal Angler hat that might work???

I don't think Winnisquam has a very viable largemouth fishery. They do have
smallmouths of decent size and they are plentiful on the southern half of the
lake especially. I only fish the northern half and I still do allright for
smallies- but the numbers are supposed to be on the south side.Good Luck.

I'll bring in my map of winnisquam, copy it and mark off the areas that
    I've found productive. i agree with the Doc...while I caught a few
largemouth I never personally got anything over about 12". I don't
stray too much into the south end of the lake but there is some nice
    structure there.

I'll mail you the marked up map on Monday.
