Conference wahoo::fishing

	Has anybody had any experiences (good or bad) with Harris Charters
	out of Gloucester ?  They take up 6 passengers max for $395/wkday,
	$445/wkend from 7-3 p.m. minimum.  Price is a little steep, but if 
	the fishing is good, it might be worth it!   They do bluefishing or
	bottom fishing for cod, etc, whatever you like.

	Any info ?

I am inquiring about the names of a few good party boats between
Boston and Providence that specialize in Bluefishing. I would like 
to stay south of Boston (preferably southside of Cape Cod). 
I am not really interested in going to Newburyport or Plum Island.

Please provide me with cost, telephone numbers, experiences and
other pertinent info.

    If you are interested in the RI area Pt. Judith is the best bet,
    but that is a long way South of Providence.  The Blue fishing peaks
    down there in Sept. and Oct.  I fish the Block Is. waters and from
    my experience so far it looks like a good year.  Send me a note
    and I'll try to dig up some names of boats if you are interested,
    I am down there almost every weekend.

    next thursday i am going to plum island for some fishing.
    we are going through captain's fishing parties located at plum island
    point.  does anybody have any input on this company, good or bad?

    Myself and another individual went out on a 1/2 day bluefishing trip with 
    Captains Fishing out of Plum Island this past Sunday 8/06/89.  There were 
    a total of 17 people on the boat.  Out of 17 people my friend was the 
    only one to catch a resonable fish.  A 7-8 pound blue.  I got a hit that 
    was most likely a blue, but it broke off my line.  That it was it for the
    duration. Nada. 
    
    I heard from one other person the week before who had also gone with
    this outfit and had similar results.
    
    Additionally, the ride to the Isle of Shoals was quite long: a little
    over an hour each way.  The actual time with lines in the water was
    about two hours.
    
    I would not really recommend this boat based on on the weak showing for this
    Sunday.

    	I've been out on the Capt's boat many times..  Cought a few, and
    got swamped to! My brother and my uncle go out just about every other
    Wednesday night with the Capt. I think that its the fish that don't 
    do the biting rather than the boat not doing its job!
    
    	I will go again on the Capts (Bob in person) boat, and I also
    	would recomend him.
    
    	But, to each his own.

             Does anyone know when the deep sea boats start going out
    to fish for mackeral?
    

    The Macks arrive in Mass bay in May. You will catch them on most
    head boats fishing for cod from mid may till June. As soon as the
    blues show up the macks screw.

    Just spent a day on the Yankee Pride out of Gloucester and the report
    is nothing short of incredible. Between two of us we caught over 100
    small (2-5 lbs) codfish in just a few hours. We had all the fish we 
    could handle by noon. We threw back more than we kept.
    
    They told us that this spring has seen more market cod than in any of
    the last five years. There are very few big ones around. In fact we 
    didn't even see anything over 6 lbs. There were a few cusk. No catfish.
    But if you want to have some fun and bring home a bunch of fillets, now
    is the time to go.
    
    We were jigging and usually had a fish on before the jig hit the
    bottom. Double headers were common as fish hit both the jig and the
    teasers. Anything was working. They even hit a still jig and teaser. We
    tried jigging about 15 feet above the bottom and still hit fish. They
    were thick.
    
    I think we have to be prudent and not take too many even though the
    fishing seems limitless. There's a 19 inch minimum and we should adhere
    to it strictly.

       I called Yankee Fleet. They only run Fri-Mon until May. So, it's
    either going to be Mon or next Friday, I'd rather go Monday, but it
    doesn't matter. She suggested reservations, so I gots to know by Fri.

    Has anyone used Walsh's out of Lynn?  If so, can you tell me a little
    about them.
    
    My stepdaughter and I want to take my husband out for father's day.  
    She lives in Revere and we will be coming down from So. NH to pick
    her up.  Thought Walsh's would be close by.  If not Walsh's, do you
    have another suggestion.

    I owe much of my cod prowers to the walsh family. Jim Walsh now
    runs the sea wife ( a boat in the family for at least 15 years)
    out of the marblehead town dock. His father Bob Sr. I think
    is running the Amberjack IV out of Lynn. The amberjack is 110 foot
    steel hull that will beat the hell out the new aluminum boats in
    an offshore blow. The sea wife is a 65 wood hull that is low to
    the water and very stable. Jim was  one the yougest party boat captains
    ever at around age 18. I think Jim has been fishing inside (around
    B-bouy) and not running out to stellwagon. I can highly recommend
    the family as a whole and you can count on them to find fish.
    I do suggest going with Jim if you don't mind giving up some
    of the creature comforts found on the larger boat.

       Ok...Who can give me some help on Charter boats that fish for
       Blues. I took one out of Plum Island last  year  and  it  was
       quite  a  boat  ride  up north to where we fished off of sand
       island?


       If I hadn't caught a Blue fish we would have been skunked!

       Anybody know of any charters boats that they can recommend?

    Look under note 555 for topic BLUES, In there are a couple of notes on
    blue's chaters. I went on one out of Rock Harbor in Orleans (Cape Cod)
    and we had the greatest time. It was expensive- 75 bucks a head plus a
    ten dollar tip to the mate, but it was well worth it. We must have
    caught at least 20 fish a piece. The mate fillet them up for us but
    the meat wasn't all that good. We took a 50 quart cooler full of
    fillets home. My arms were sore for three days. Now is the time to go,
    the Blues are everywhere, you may even pick up a Striper or two. These
    boats are 4 to 6 people with four rods in the water, so when you hit a
    school it is wild. We had all four rods hook up at once! What a day.
    The 75 smackers was for an 8 hour trip you can go on 4 hr trips for
    less money but I would suggest the 8 hr trip because it just goes by so
    fast.
