| John, I sent out my order with a check well over a week ago to
the Chelmsford address (I think it was Ed's address) and I'm
surprised that my name isn't on this list! So if you don't receive
soon please let me know because I place an order for two hats and
would hate to miss out because of our fine U.S. postal service!!
Thanks

Patience my boy, patience! The deadline is past, the color of the
threads has been chosen (bet you didn't know we had to do *that*!)
and I'm awaiting the final tally of orders. Since John Easter and
I are working together on this, we have to get together one last
time and compile the final order, then we wait 3 or so weeks for
the hats to be delivered, then we distribute them, and you will
have you hat(s)...

| Pete, this has been fliping around like a HAWG out of water. It
was started back in feb of this year and Ed Preston and myself got
the thing set in concrete a little over a month ago. These are
personally designed patches and hats for the folks in this fishing
file. A few extra hats were ordered and if you want to be the proud
owner of the one of a kind beauties you best contact Ed Preston
before they are all gone. I don't think any more will be made quite
like these (and they don't say DIGITAL or digital for that matter).
Ed's node is a few replys back.
Regards, John.

1090.29 | Does the blue hat attract the fish?!?!?! | BTOVT::MORONG | | Tue Jul 18 1989 09:31 | 19 |
| Got to put my hat to use this past Saturday. I works!!!! I was
only able to fish for about 3 hours in the morning (8-11), but in
that time I boated 7 smallmouth and 1 northern pike. I also lost
2 more bass. I haven't had a day liek this one in as long as I can
remember. Dead clam water, sunny, 70-75 degrees, and very few boats
in the area. The bass were literally coming out of the water all
around me (must have been attracted to the hat). They were chasing
frogs and minnows, coming right out of the water for them. When I
would see one hit a frog, I would cast my lure (crankbait) in that
direction, let it sit on the surface for 5-10 seconds, then begin
a slow retrieve. 2 of them hit the lure before I could start my re-
trieve, and most of the others hit it shortly after. All of them were
very aggressive!!! All of them came out of the water at least once.
No real big hawgs (largest 17"), but they were all nice fish. There is
nothing like casting out, letting the ripples settle, and suddenly a
bass smashes the surface to get the lure. It doesn't get any better
than that!!!!

| I might be able to lay claim to being the first to catch a fish
while wearing the soon-to-be-legendary hat. Saturday morning, July 1,
6:30 am, I landed a dandy 19" pickerel off the dock at the in-law's
condo at Winni. I was dangling a gitzit in front of a couple of
hungry pickerel, when this guy shoots out of nowhere to grab it.
Whoever said pickerel don't fight? This guy broke the water a few
times before I landed him. Funny thing, while he was struggling,
a bass come up alongside to watch. Instead of being scared off by
the action, it seemed that he was attracted by it... Never did get
the bass, though.
Northern Pike?? Where is this??? (you have my undivided attention!)

Yes, that is in Vermont. Lake Champlain, St Albans Bay
to be more exact.
BTW, I gave the hat another test with some evening fishing
last night. Still works great!!!

| Last week I was on vacation and it was the best bass fishing experience
ever! My wife and I sent the kids off to camp and spent four evenings
on the Nashua in Pepperell, from about 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Caught over 50
bass!! Most were 1-2 lbs but 9 of them were in the 3-4 lb range. My
wife was using minnows(she loves the thrill of the hunt). On the first
night I caught bass on spinnerbaits and Kalin grubs. But I took a few
live crawfish with me just for kicks. Caught five bass with six
crawfish. The next three nights I used a pig-in-jig and took the bigger
fish. The minnows were not nearly as effect as the pig-in-jig. I never
landed a bass on a pig-in-jig before. I used a Stanley 5/8 black/green
and chartuse with brown #11 pork.
Now my wife says it is the hat not my fishing skill. I think she has
her eye on my hat. After reading he reports here and just reading Les's
note I hope all you terminal anglers are having as much fun.
BTW, I wonder if DocMac had his hat on when he landed his latest hawg?
Ed - whose off to NBS to buy a few more of those jigs.

| Ah, Coonass, I never tire of reading your replies. :-)
My hat finally brought me some luck last night. I was fishing a small pond.
I had a zara spook on, and had never caught a fish on a spook (just bought
my first one this year). Well, I finally got the action working right, and
SLAM! My only decent bass of the year- just over 17" and fat. I'd guess it was
right around three pounds give or take.
Well, after fishing the twi-night tourney, I figured I should stick around
and fish after it got dark. I kept hearing some noises in the bushes, but I
figured, "what's the worst thing it could be? A raccoon?" Well, it became
pitch black, and the noises got real close, say about 4 feet away. I yelled
at the critter as I fumbled through my tackle box for the light. During the
ruckus, I found my light, and shone it on the intruder. There sat a very
displeased skunk, tail up and all!!! As I was on a pallet sitting over the
water, there was nowhere for me to go. I stopped yelling, and started praying.
Thankfully, the skunk was as scairt of me as I was of it, and it ambled
off through the underbrush. I decided that now was as good a time as any to
find a new spot. :-)
