1072.0. "Walt Disney World" by COOKIE::INDERMUEHLE (Stonehenge Alignment Service) Thu Mar 30 1989 16:58

We, myself and family will be heading down to WDW in June. We will
be staying at Fort Wilderness on the WDW property. Has anyone sayed
there and fished the canals that I have been reading about in all
the brouchers? There are canoe's for rent and a lisence is not required.
The claims are that there are some nice bass to be had in those
waters.

If you have been there and had any luck, what did you use?
Being a Colorado trout fisherman for years, I haven't a lot of
SUCCESSFUL experience with Bass'in. We supposedly have some good
bass water down around Pueblo, but you couldn't prove it by me.
One bass in 3 years and I couldn't even stretch it from it's
illegal 14" to a legel 15".

Thanks,

John I.

    That's an interesting point.

If you are ever in Florida or someplace and you see a gator, it may
be wise to skirt *way* around him/her. In case you didn't know
it, gators can run as fast as a dog for short distances.

"short" means further than you can run before he/she gives up.

    Just a tip.

My family and I stayed at WDW three years ago. We stayed in the
Contemporary Hotel on the WDW property. They have a deal were they
come and pick you up at the hotel dock out back with a float boat
and take you out for a two hour fishing trip. It was great, in two
hours I caught seven bass, nothing big 1 to 2Lbs,and my wife caught
one. Of course hers was the biggest,3 1/2lbs.

My family and I went to WDW last August and stayed at
	Ft. Wilderness.

I brought a pack fly/spin rod, fly reel, spin reel, and
the ol' tackle box. We were so busy with all the things
to see and do that I didn't get to wet a line until the
day we were scheduled to leave. I fished one canal from
06:30 to 08:00 and got not a bite. It was not a good looking
piece of water at all. (I did see/spook a family of deer).

My daughter and I did go on the horse back ride, twice, and
the 'trail' they take you on parallels a real nice canal
for some ways. Both times by this water way I noted several
BIG swirls as fish left the shore waters due to the passing
horses. These were no small fish! Had I had the time to get
back to these canals to fish I have no doubt that I
could/would/should have connected. I don' remember the lay
of the land well enough to tell you how to get to this spot
other than to tell you that it is 'behind' the horse 'ranch'
and that there's a widening of the canal into a sort of pond.

I don't know if this water is accessible with one of there
canoes as I don't know if the waterways are interconnected.
(If there is no canoe access to this canal you could probably
use a rental bicycle to get back to it from the road by the
	horse ranch.)

You might well take the trail ride early on in your stay
(use one of your 'sun and fun' coupons) to locate this water
for some early morning pole prodding!

				GOOD LUCK
