| It is MASS, but I think it only applies to canoes and small row
boats? Does anyone have more info on this?

| I know that any vessel under 16' only needs to have throwable "PFD's",
or also known as type IV.
However, this time of year (especially in canoes), you need a wearable type.
Hypothermia can set in quite quickly. Survival time would be better if
you were wearing something rather than clutching a floating cushion.
I remember hearing last year that you definitely needed them in canoes
till May something. It seems to be no matter what size boat your in, this
time of year you might want to wear one. If anything at all, it'll help
break the wind on those cold spring days.

| As I understand it...anyone in a canoe must be wearing a life
jacket between Sep. 15th and May 15th. At least this is what the
guy told me when I bought my canoe last year. Like bassin' Bob
said, I think this only applies to people in a canoe, but I wouldn't
swear to it.

| I just called the Division of Recreational Vehilces, Law Enforcment
office. The guy said the law applies to canoes only, between
September 15 and May 15.
