1057.0. "cleaner for alum. boats" by CSSE::JUDSON (What do you mean it isn't supported) Fri Mar 24 1989 09:37

Can anyone out there help me with my problem, my problem is water
stains on my alum. boat, you know at the water line. Is there a special
cleaner available?.

Thanks for the help,

Bruce(Bigbird)

    H Bruce.

Use vinegar and some scotchbrite. That will do it.

Hummm....

a sandblaster works well!

and a disk sander with 40 grit does wonders too!

You might also ask TBDW for hints on carefully removing stains with a
chainsaw...

on the serious side, try Simple Green. It works well.

Bruce,

I buy it by the gallon at Hammer Hardware in Nashua. Works great for the scum
line.

Hey Bruce, I never heard of Simple Green but low and behold I found
it in the soap section of my grocery store (Alexanders) in Manchester,
N.H.. Came in a quart bottle with sprayer, cost $1.99. Check stores
    down your way.

I tend to spend lots of time with my outboard idling, and that creates a heavy
scum on the lower unit as well as on the boat transom. The absolute best stuff
I've found is Wesley's Bleche-White car whitewall tire cleaner! Spray it on,
grab a damp sponge and wipe it off. I used to use some pretty rough scouring
techniques, and I used to cringe at the thought of what I was doing to the
gelcoat and the paint on the engine. This stuff works like magic.

Should work on your aluminum boat, too.

BRUCE...no problem. FYI, that tip came out of Chapter 12, "Boat
Maintenance, the Easy Way!" from my book, "HoleShot's Fishing Tips and
Techniques for the Novice to the Pro".
