1031.0. "Judge bans cach and release!" by LUDWIG::BING (Lunker hunter) Wed Mar 15 1989 05:07

No this isnt the headline from the national enq. It is an actual
artical from the March issue of "The In-Fisherman". Apparently,
I believe it was in Italy, A group of animal rights activists had
thier day in court over the fishing issue. They had a couple of
professors there who said that catching fish did cause them ( the
fish) pain and tramatic stress. They went on to explain how the
fish reacted when caught and how it affected them. The judge then
ruled that catching fish to eat was alright even though it did hurt
the fish. BUT catching fish for catch and release purposes only
was harmful and caused unessecary pain to the fish. Therfore catch
    and release was out.

I wrote this from memory so some of the facts may be wrong, such
as not Italy but some where else. However it is true.

Next thing 'The Judge' will want us to wear gauze masks to prevent
us from inhaling gnats, mosquitos, sand flees, may fly, etc. etc.

I guess that means no live bait fishing either, even if you were
planning on killing the fish after you caught it. Unless of course
you ate your bait along with the fish.

So what if there is a minimum size limit?

You catch an undersized fish and then what?

"Fish, I am affraid that releasing you would cause far to much pain
for you, therefore, I must kill you. Terribly sorry."
