You have a box BIGGER than the 797? You must have to load it into the boat
with a forklift. 8^) I rememeber HSJ giving me a hard time about the
size of my my box - it was obviously jealousy because the following year
he out-did me with his 797. I have a Flambeau 2275, a little larger than
the 777, more heavy duty and more expensive 8^(.
One tip (I got from R/O) for keeping pork is to use a small tupperware
container. My box has a removable pig rack designed to hold pork jars
but I find it easier keeping the pork in tupperware in my large bottom
drawer. I keep the jigs in my jig/grub/gitzit drawer.
The top area on the 797 should be able to hold enough plastic for a
tupperware party 8^).
Since I don't have oodles of storage space on my boat, I have vowed not to
resort to mutiple boxes (in the boat). And the way I look at it, if I can't
catch fish on the amount of tackle that I can fit into my box, then having
more tackle to look at will just confuse the issue.
One way to save room is by swapping things in and out of your box. There are
some times when you KNOW you will not use certain lures in a particuliar
tournament or while just fishing.
This year I'm going to order one or two replacement drawers for my box.
They're cheap enough and it'll make swapping stuff easier.

| Like DonMac said, I picked up the 797 last year from BP. Last years price
was about $32.97 (or so) and I haven't seen it any lower this year at Zylas
or K-Mart.
The top of the box is huge. The right hand side comes with a spinnerbait
rack that will hold about 20-25 baits. I also keep my spare spools, 3 rolls
of extra line, first-aid kit, knife, line stripper, and a spare reel or two
with room left over. The drawers accommodate all my topwater and cranks
baits. As large as it is, I still carry a separate box for just my worms
and jigs.
The box is well constructed and well worth the money if you need lots of
room. It does tend to get in my way sometimes, though.

| I did something dangerous with my 797; I weighed it. Would you believe
23 pounds? Yow. Good ballast. That's full, of course. I think the top
tray could actually hold a six-pack (of apple juice, of course).
The best thing it did for me was to separate the lures that I used to
have munged together because I didn't have enough compartments.
Naturally, once I saw them all separated, I could see what I had to buy
at Zyla's... ;^)

| Thanks for all the immoral support guys! A Plano "Phantom Pro"
797 is now wingin' it's way (with spinnerbait rack, for all those
new Stanley "Vibra-Shafts") East from Springfield, Mo. Now if I
can only get my girlfriend out of the way to start bringin' in bags
of lures "still in the wrapper" from my trunk...
What the hell, friday is St. Paddie's day; maybe I should just
"consume mass quantities"...

Hey Skoal Brother...Friday is Friday, you would be out there
raising the stock prices on Anheiser Busch anyway ..-). You'll
just be bumping into more of the Irish crowd tomorrow. Just
don't forget that winterGREEN wonder you use.

| I lied a little about the Tourney TX box from BPro - but not until
this am. A discreet phone call revealed that the TX was still in
stock, so I said "what the hell...". Naturally, I needed some more
Jigs 'n Pig Meat to put in it so...
Has anyone used the pork "Spring Lizards"? Bet they'd be good on
spawners - at least, they better be, 'cause they're sure as S%#!
enroute.

| I haven't found it elsewhere in here so I'll ask:
Is UMCO still in business, and if so where are they? I've had one of
their big boxes for about 30 years now and it's great. I'd now like to
get a couple more for similar purposes (art/craft toolboxes) but when I
tried to get their number to ask them for a local distributor,
directory service couldn't find a listing for them in Watertown Minn.
anymore.
Can somebody help? Boston-area distributor/dealer would be terrific
but I'd be glad to settle for how to make contact with'm.
Thanks.

| Maggie,
I bought an UMCO "Possium Belly" from Bass Pro Shop (mailorder).
You might also find them in Gander Mountain or Cabella's (also
mailorder.)
The only problem I have found with the thing is that I wanted to
fill up all that empty SPACE ($$$$). The thing kind of looks like
B52 ready for take off when its openned up 8^).

turns out the "Possum Belly" carried by BP is made by US Assembly Inc
rather than UMCO :-(
...i'm getting a catalog from USAI anyway, your description of the box
sounds what i'm looking for (hope it's aluminum or fiberglass though)
