1006.0. "Vacation spots?" by LUDWIG::BING (one bourbon,one scotch,one beer.) Wed Mar 01 1989 07:46

Anyone have any good suggestions as to where to take my girlfriend
on a fishing vacation this summer? We are on vacation the last week
of August, and live in central Ma. I am looking for a place that
is modern ( no outdoor facilities) and not too exspensive($200-$300).
Also a place that has boats would be nice. I know i should'nt take
her on a vacation like this but she wants to go and besides if the
motor on the boat were to break down someone would have to row.
"Just a little faster dear", WHACK! 8*).

have you ever been to the outer banks of n.c.? you can probably
find a cabin for that price in kill devil hills or nags head
if you stay on the sound side or between the highways. one of the
realtors which handles cabins is "the young people" in kill devil
    hill, another is sun realty.
the fishing on the outer banks is great. as for boats i usually go
down to oregon inlet and go offshore for tuna and marlin. there
are boats which charter for inshore fishing as well. the end of
august should produce some decent surf fishing also.

Well, how about Lake Dillon, Marble, Aspen, Steamboat Springs,
(I could continue for a LONG time since that is OFF SEASON out here).
Of course, you would need 2 free frequent flyer bonus tickets. :-)

     My favorite Spot.

East Gate Motor Lodge Littleton, N.H. @I93/rt302

This quaint motor lodge is about $34 a night for 2 people.
It's clean!! has A/C and HBO. It also has the best retuarant in
town(It's dining room). A great lounge with week-end Entertainment
    and good prices.

There is a Championship Golf Course 15mins. away and the Moore
Resevoir is right around the corner. You might call Corey's gun
shop in Littleton for boat/canoe rentals.

It's a great area. Fish in the AM. Take a drive in the afternoon.
Enjoy a great dinner and goto the lounge for massive amounts of
    cocktails.

It's 2.5 - 3 hrs from Marlboro Ma. Depending on how heavy your
    foot is.

BTW there is a pool also- Where I leave the wife sunning while
I hit the little ball around.

Lot's of things to do up there. And remember

NO SALES TAX -- NO BOTTLE BILL-- NO DUKAKIS!!

Anyone have any info. on Winnepesake(sp?), after all the talk in
here about the fishinf thre I thought I might give it a try.

Winni is SO big that no one could give you the info you might be
looking for w/o specifics (do you plan to bring your own boat, a
canoe maybe... do you want to know about lodging, camping spots,
etc?) I suggest, for a start, you get all the Winni info you can
find at the rest areas along the highway in NH, and scan it.

I do know that they have several campgrounds right on the water that
you could at least canoe from, but otherwise I'm spoiled, since
the in-laws have a condo right on Paugus Bay, w. a nice dock, and
they let us keep our canoe up there all summer. Unless you're into
big water boating, you might consider some of the "smaller" big
lakes that aren't so vast - Winni is BIG!

1006.6Anything in New York?HPSTEK::RHUFFFri Mar 10 1989 07:5614
Can anyone give me some ideas about vacation spots in New York?
I have heard mentioning of Squam Lakes. I would like to camp
but I am open for all ideas. I have a 14' aluminum boat powered
by a 18 hp Evinrude all toted on a trailer. So I guess I need
a ramp. I also have a canoe if that is better. I will also be
bringing my wife so I need to find a place that has some sort of
recreation. Bingo, shuttle board, basket weaving, anything like
these which will take time for her and will enable me to fish and
    fish and fish.

    				Thank you,

Try Lake George (Western Side). Pick a large town and write
or call the Chamber of Commerce about lodging, camping etc. NY has
a mountain of vacation guides available. I go to the Finger Lakes
once in awhile and to Lake Ontario several times a season, but there's
    only fishing where I stay.

1006.9MT CHASE LOGDE, Patten Ma.THRUST::COTHRANTue Mar 14 1989 09:5692
I found the following last night. It was given to me by a
friend who attended the show at the Centrum this past Feb.

Reprinted with out permission, and is note an advertisement
for CHASE LODGE. I just happen to find this poop sheet and
thought I'd add in response to the base note... Reprinted in
	part...

"MT CHASE LODGE, Upper Shin Pond, Patten, Maine 04756
			Host(s) Rick and Sara Hill" Tele # (207) 528-2183
	On the lodge:
"The best time to plan for a vacation trip here is July and August,
after our busy spring fishing season. Boating hiking, fishing, or
just plain relaxing are just some of the many activities available."

"The majority of our summer guests are family vacationers who spend
a week or more in one of our housekeeping cabins. Each cabin is
totally equipped with all the necessary equipment for cooking and
sleeping. Full baths with hot and cold running water and electricity
make this a comfortable vacation spot while you visit this beautiful
	wilderness area."

	On Fishing:
"Fishing here at MT. Chase Lodge is perhaps our most consistent spring
and summer activity. Landlocked salmon, brook trout, and lake trout
are the primary species in Upper Shin Pond." ...
"Nearby rivers, brooks and streams also produce many fine catches.
	Smallmouth bass, pickerel, yellow perch..."...
"Guide service and floatplane service are also offered for those who
would like to add a special zest to their trip..."
"Boat and motor rentals are available at a nominal fee, or you
may bring your own if you prefer. Motors up to 10 hp are fine."

I am looking for a one or two week summer rental in the NH, Mass, Maine or
Vermont Area. Would like for it to be on water where we can safely use a
canoe and which we can fish.

Two bedrooms or three. This will be for my wife and myself, and some time
for my son and his wife and pre-school child. Also two well mannered
small dogs (scottie and yorkshire). Would be willing to discuss a deposit
is there is a concern about the dogs.

The window that I am considering is june through sept , depending on the
anticipated weather in the area. Nearby shopping and dining would be a big
plus.

1006.14Looking for a fishing paradiseSMURF::AMBERFri Feb 08 1991 07:2722
I'm trying to plan a fishing vacation and just discovered this file.
So far it looks like a great conference, but I gotta ask (and maybe
    shouldn't!): what's the legend?

Anyway, the intent of the trip is for me (NH) and my brother (Columbo
OH) to take his son on a weeklong or so fishing trip. Aside from
fishing, required activities are drinking beer, eating, and sleeping
(tents are ok, but a cabin/lodge/whatever is preferred). A place that
    rents boats is essential.

So far, I'm thinking either the Deep River area of Ontario (looks like
Ottawa is about 6 or 700 miles from both of us) or Table Rock Lake,
Missouri. Obviously, that leaves alot of other places to consider,
but BPS and Cabelas are both out of their "outdoor adventure" type
catalogs and I'm only familiar with my local waters. So, does anyone
have any recommendations for good places to go and stay? I expect
fly-in places to be rather expensive and thus need to be able to
    drive there somehow. Ideas please.

    Thanks,
    Bob A.

Bob, If your considering Canada or Nothern New England or Upstate
New York, I'd recommend stopping by the Worceseter Fishing Expo at
the Centrum tnight or this weekend. They have an entire section
with booths from various fishing camps and outfitters. Lots of
great information available there. Good luck, and welcome to the
    fishing notesfile, donmac

Oy yea, I almost forgot, "the legend" refers to "The Legend of the
Lakes", a mythical being that doesn't actually exist (and therefore
does not actually catch fish). I believe the random outbursts that
appear within these notes, which claim to be the writings of "the
legend", are actually the work of a complex, but extremely
simple-minded personality simulator, left over from some long lost
    hacker of old. 8^)
1006.16Some choicesSMURF::AMBERTue Feb 12 1991 09:1115
The Wooster Expo had a wealth of info. For anyone else seeking
Canada (Ontario at least) trips, the tourist department puts out an
excellent brochure on fishing trips. It includes the camp name and
location, types of fish you might encounter, as well as prices. Looks
like around $600 US gets you a week at most places including a boat.
Some camps have "housekeeping" cottages and you cook, others (lodges)
    include meals.

I spoke with 2 of the Ontario camp reps, Gogama Lodge and K/O Lodge.
These seem like pretty good choices. Info from Table Rock Lake is
on its way. If that looks good (and the boss agrees) I'll head to
T.R. in April and Ontario in August.

Depending on the number of requests, I'm willing to IO mail copies
of stuff I've gathered thus far. Send mail to amber@ravine.
