991.0. "BIG E FISHING EXPO" by LUDWIG::MATTSON () Mon Feb 20 1989 08:17

BIG E FISHING EXPO starts this Thursday through Sunday. I've never
gone but from what folks tell me it's much bigger than the Centrum.
Plus I'm still looking for that perfect new boat at a rock bottom
price. An add for the Expo was in the Sports section of the Worcester
    Gazette this Sunday.
What did you guys think of the Fair show/sale? It was much smaller
than the Centrum but I got to talk to a lot more Reps. I bought
one of them new Rattalin Rapalas. Sound impressive the way the Rep
explained it's supposed to work. I figuire if it doesn't catch any
fish,I'll take the hooks off and give it to my newborn son for a
    rattle.

using Rapala's, where did you pick up that new Rapala with rattles?
How many different colors and sizes were they?

    Frank,

I bought the one I mentioned at the Fair sale in Worcester, which
is now over. I got it for $ 2.99 and it's called the Rattl'N Rap.
But I think any place that carries Rapala lures will stock them
now, they just came in from Rapala this year. I also found that Pro
Bass Shop carries them for $ 2.88. They appear to only come in one
size right now, 1/2 oz. 2 3/8". There are 6 color schemes, Chrome
    Black,Chrome Blue,Shad,Fire Tiger,Crawdad,Gold Black.

Gary,

did you buy your son a fishing combo yet. I bought my godchild one
for christmas, he is now 3 months old. I wanted to start he out
on the right foot. I went the the Fair sale on sat. and bought acouple
of roostertails and mepps spinners. I didn't think it was that good.

There is a fishing auction every thursday night at a place off 146A.
I think its in Whitenville?? It started about 2 weeks ago. They
didn't have much stuff yet but they plan on get some waders and
along with other fishing gear. I picked up a Johnson cast a country
mile closed face real for $15. This is what Bass Pro shops wanted
for it but I didn't have to wait and I didn't have to pay for shipping
and handling. If you want to go either this week or next give me
a call and I will let you know how to get there. I may even go
this week to see what they got in the last couple of weeks.

That auction is Whitey's Auction in Uxbridge, MA on route 146A. If
you are coming from 290 in Worcester, take the route 146 Millbury
exit and just stay on the road for about 15-20 miles until 146 splits
into 146A, then take 146A about a mile or so and you will see a
big sign saying FISHING AUCTION on the left side of the road. I
have been going there for a few years now. They always have great
deals, better than any store. They start the auction at 7 PM every
Thursday until around April, I believe.

I'll be going either this Thursday night or next Thursday night.
Hope to see a fellow noter there. I don't spend my money on fishing
equipment in stores (even Spag's :-) because they get too much for
everything. The only places I buy are through the catalog, Fishing
Expositions, or auctions like this one.

    Tom,
I'm glad to see that your getting you god child started in the
right direction, but I think it's going to be a while before he uses
it. I got my daughter one of them Fisher Price fishing outfits last
Summer and took her with me a few times. She was 2 1/2 and liked
being out with Dad but the Rod ended up in the water more than she
fished with it. Towards the end of the season I got her to the point
where I would cast it out and let her reel it in.
I'm going to give it a try again this year, hopefully with my
new Bass Boat. I've also called her in when I've watched any of the
Fishing shows on TNN on cable. She says she wants to go and wants
Daddy to get a boat. Knowing my luck she'll probobly catch more
than I do. My Son I'm going to wait on for a while. I think maybe
he should learn how to sit up before I put a pole in his hands.
That auction you and Frank talked about sounds pretty good.
I'm going to the BIG E show today and I'll have to wait and see
    whats going on next Thursday.

    John,
Thanks for the info on the Auction. I'm like you the cheaper
the price the better. I've also had good luck with Brand name lures
at different Flea Markets including the one in Grafton. Sorry about
refering to you as Frank in the message I sent back to Tom. I'm
usally not in this early in the morning and I'm still half asleep.
Maybe we'll bump into one another at one of these.

    				take care,

    re: .8 (Gary)

No problem, I'm always at the Grafton Flea Market just about every
Sunday morning. I like to get there before the crowds pour in,
    usually around 9:30-10:00.

    It's auction time tonight!!!
